Having temperature problems with my 9800 PRO

Just got it yesterday but I'm already getting problems.
I've installed a program that came on the CD of the video card that monitors the temperature, speed of the fan, etc.
When I monitor it it is always at 70 degrees C, even if I'm doing nothing.
When I checked it right after I played BF1942, it was close to 90 degrees C.
I've checked sites and it seems like 50 degrees C is normal, even if the card was overclocked.
The thing is it is only at that low of a temperature right after I boot up and it steadily increases even while idle.
Does it have to do with the fact I run an Athlon?
Or do I need to go out and buy some fan or heatsink?

Hmmm, 90 degree Celcius? I don't know if the temperature of your video card can even reach that and survive. Try touching it to see if it really is that hot.

same here . my radeon 9800 get's hotter then hell .
can't barely touch it . but it is running for a good time now.

i put 2 case fans on it and it is at an okay temp now.
i first thought it was my card only but i installed a whole bunch of'em and most of them get rather hot .

the ati cards like the 9600 from creative with passive cooling is a joke . it preforms very poorly
