Hi a long time ago I posted a thread asking for help with my starcraft. At one point one of your solutions was to unlock regedit. Well my friend encountered the same problem that I did. I went to my old post where you listed the website in order to unlock regedit. At the site I downloaded the program to unlock it and as soon as I double clicked it it would say. "Registry edit has been disabled by your administrator". Now I wondered if this was the program to enable it why wont it run to? PLease give me your ideas, he is running on a Windows XP OS and he has a 2ghz processor , 256mb ram , etc. PLease help me unlock this regedit thanks.

He has to be logged on as administrator to unlock the registry.

To view all the accounts on the computer: Control Panel - Accounts.

Log on with the administrator account and run the program.

He is an administrator already i already looked in control panel then accounts and passwords etc. And it says he is a system administrator

Open regedit, mark one of the HKEYs (For example HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT) and choose edit-privileges (I hope this is it, my OS is Swedish, so the last name may be different, but a translation from the Swedish word gives me privileges. You may correct me on this one...) Choose "Advanced" and make sure that the administrator may change and write to all registry keys. Repeat this procedure for all HKEYs.

PS...Don't do this if you don't know what you're doing.

run gpedit.msc from Start--> Run

go to User Config --> Admin templates --> system and DISABLE the setting to "disable registry editing tools" (we want to disable the disabling-- not enable the disabling )

not sure if it will give you access to that but it should if you are an administrator

I'm using Windows 2000 so it might not be the same...

sorry it didnt find it when I put it gpedit.msc it gave me the "make sure you have the specified etc" . Got any other ideas please? Really need to open regedit thanks alot

Whenever I encounter a problem like that, I just uninstall the game > do a disk clean up > then I defragment my HD > then I restart the computer > then I reload the game that was giving me problems and it always works out for me.

Thats all I know how to do.

Not only do I need to open regedit to fiz the battle.net problem but I need to access the cd key for my friends counter strike which I can only find to change through regedit. SO once again Ive tried the completely remove it and everything but it doesent work. It isnt a matter of suggestions on how to fiz starcraft I simply need regedit open. But thanks everyone for their help but once again please help me open regedit thanks alot.

What operating system?
Usually to access regedit you click the start button, select run, type in regedit, and click OK.
Most values you're looking for will be under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software, while others might be in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software.

If on Windows XP

Start > Control Panel > User Accounts.

Make certain the Owner is the administrator. Or, login with a new administrator account.

follow the examples by Swilo, and everything should be good.

Now im going to cry

Ok.....I need to open regedit. When i try to open it normally, it gives me the message "it has been disabled", when i download unlock.reg I get the same message. He IS and administrator (checked in accounts) and i tried on his sister's and father's administrator account. When I tried the spedit.msc it said that it could not find the file. So, as I have said, I need to open regedit, above is all that I have tried, none of them work. Please someone tell me how to open it and please dont start with saying "first open regedit....." thanks.
