hi, it's ME

i'm sure ya'll won't remember me, i'm front your deep dark past.

Anyway....

I just got a 120GB harddrive to store all my porn... err, divx files, errr music, err word documents, and it won't show up in win2k, this is a WD harddrive.

It shows up in BIOS, but not Windows 2000 pro, i have no idea why not. I bought it as a bare drive, so it came with no software. etc.

If someone could please help, it would be greatly appericated

Thank you,
Greg

Ah..more specs
PA 61 REV D.2 Motherboard
400Mhz PII Proc (same one as i had 2 years ago, go figure)
256MB RAM
Harddrive, one is a WD Caviar 102AA 10GB
the other one that i have a problem with is

WD 120GB EIDE ULTRA-ATA/100 7200RPM W/8MB BUFFER

geez the HD is worth more than the rest of your system =)

did you partition the drive? go into Control Panel--> Admin Tools --> Computer Management --> Disk Management

Can you see the drive there? It is probably listed as all "unused space"

right click on that "box" and do a "Create Partition" ... you might want to split it up into a few partitions

You will then have to format the new drive

You will be asked if you want NTFS or FAT32 --- NTFS is more efficient and provides for better security so I'd recommend that, although FAT32 would be better if you ever want to access it from a Windows 9x/ME installation.

The drive is fresh from the box, no? If so then it isn't partitioned, and thus isn't usable by windows.
Follow what Rap said, should work. If not post back and we can give you the longer route using a boot disk.

Service packs shouldn't matter for this

with NT you need SP6 to see a partition greater than 8GB but its not an issue with 2000

I had this same problem in Windows XP, and had the hardest time trying to find the partition tool. I want fdisk back:(.
btw, who is this Greg guy? I guess he was before I started hanging around here.

bah bob, greg was around when you were - he just felt the need to fall off the face of the planet so you probably dont remember :|

just read this ~
Windows 2000 by default doesn’t support ATA100 hard drives. To resolve this issue please download and install Service Pack 2 from Microsoft which fixes this issue.

Mister Skywalker sir, I beleieve the force lightning attack drained your powers, that picture makes no sense to your post.

he must have died again.
and grim, i think that screen was of greg falling off the edge of the earth.

it worked... i just got back from vacation (Surf City NJ) And it was nice, but coming back and getting my computer working was just as nice :-)

Rapmaster thank you, it's formatting i write this. I'm happy.

Thank you all again, sorry i did not reply sooner.

Anyway i must get Counter-Strike or TFC, my computer doesn't have any of this on it atm... If anyone would be willing to hook me up with updates & stuff (i have HL) I'd be grateful (i remember doing that awhile back).

Okay i best be going, got files to copy :-)

DAMMIT

i spent 1/2 hour formatting and i get back "The Volume Size Is Too Large"

My ass.

111GB, win2k can't support that? leave it to Microsoft to piss me off.

I am splitting it into two 55GB partations atm, 15% #1

DIE

it didn't work

How often does the Trending Content box refresh?
  • The Helper The Helper:
Also, in the last template there was a seperation between sticky threads and regular threads in the forum
  • Ghan Ghan:
Not sure. It's probably part of a cron job.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Hey Ghan, whatever cron job its part of its not running its been the same for days. If it does not work can we remove it?
  • The Helper The Helper:
    LOL! A tweak job!
  • The Helper The Helper:
this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably will have to give it some time to update.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I'm guessing it is not retroactive.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Next on the punch list: Update the server to Ubuntu 24.04.

Mad Lads is new I see it displays original post date

One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots
  • The Helper The Helper:
oh wow, i bet i can post x links now and do the webp pics now giggity
  • The Helper The Helper:
ahh anubis blocks anyone that has javascript turned off
