I posted this at the EA site, but I'd figure I'd ask for additional help here.

Everytime I click on a game it says my ping is 9999 (and I have cable). And if I try to join, after the map loads, and after I hit start, it gives me the connection problem message and signs me right off. This has been happening since I got it on day 1.

I think it's my firewall. But I'm not to knowledgable on them. I have norton personal firewall. I tried adding the port 14567 (the port needed apparently) to the BF1942.exe file in Norton, but I also have to add the range, but I can only add the range or the single port alone, I can't have them on there at the same time. I tried all my other mutliplayer games and they work fine and dandy.

I have an Nvidia Geforce 3 ti200, 256 DDR Ram, and XP. Any help would be great.

problem mightbe the build in firewall in windows xp . might wanna disable that one .
on the otherhand it is weird u can connect .
i mean if a firewall is blocking you cannot even get in .
is this full retail and did you patch ??

Yup

I patched. I got the retail version. I might have a built in XP firewall but I don't know where to find it if I do.

You can find the firewall setting by going into your Network Places,

Click View Network Connections on the left hand side. Your connections will come up - right click to get properties. Look at the advanced tab - and see if your firewall is set. You can change the setting here.

Hrm. Much thanks to you. I saw that it was checked and I got rid of it, so now Mr. Norton is my only firewall. I'm gonna try it again later and if I have any more problems I'll come back for more help if you don't mind.

Thanks in advance.

I did that thing you suggested and it still didn't work. I have 256 DDR Ram....do I need more?

Thanks, but I'm gonna try uninstalling my firewall first then if that doesn't work I'll reinstall my firewall and try what that thread suggested.

Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.

  • The Helper The Helper:
I wonder how all these bots that sit on the lastest content page get passed anubis or maybe they did not but they are just registering on whos online
  • The Helper The Helper:
showing up on whos online not registration
  • Ghan Ghan:
The first gate is stopping all the bots that don't execute javascript.
  • Ghan Ghan:
That's the main thing with Anubis - no Javascript, no site. Typically you can still get the site to load without Javascript.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I remember the whole javascript thing, question - how many real people disable that?
  • The Helper The Helper:
Hell I guess I could go back on the stats to know that - we probably capture that and we know the before and after
  • Ghan Ghan:
Real users can't really disable Javascript anymore these days.
  • Ghan Ghan:
The internet is broken without it.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Bot readable, not human usable.
  • The Helper The Helper:
    got it

    Happy Thursday!
