Can anyone please help me with my Open RPG? "Tales Of Destiny ORPG" :( im not to good at map making, but ive got levels set out, unit spawn regions, and respawn regions ready, also ive Attempted to make a Save and load stystem, for what ive seen its worked :D anyway, anyone care to help?

wow

Well if you aren't very good at map making then an ORPG is a very bad place to start, depending on how much you know try making simple maps and just learn how to do stuff, then when you get really good you can find a good team of people to work with and start thinking of making something as big as a ORPG.

(sorry for any flames that might or may have erupted)

You don't need a team to make a rpg, I find it alot better if you make a map on your own.

True, but you have to be REAL good and it takes a long time, and personally I think multiple minds all thinking of stuff works better to make an original map.

:( well, So far ive planned out the positions of teleporters, set up unit possitions ( reborn 1 minute after there death ), Started on terrain ( Done starter positions and first forest ), set up a hero morph system (Evolves hero when enters a region, evolves at levels 10, 20, 35, and 50) And made 5 starter chars, and full 4 evoltions of warrior. i just need help as that took me... well a 4 hours :P

No you don't, it just depends what you put in your map depends on how good you need to be. Great rpgs can be created by a normal user that doesn't give up. The more quality you put in your map the longer it will take to make.

For my Destiny RPG I made I worked on it for 6+ months and its not close to done.

what exactly did you need help with, ideas, triggers, terrain, icons..... what? also, what kinda saving system did you make? did you use WE U? i cant get mine to work....... id love to help, rpgs are really fun to do.

I need help with idea's, some terrain and Item Merge triggers. and other triggers as we process thru the map, and ive just simple Save trigger... My mates designed it. Anyway, gotta go for tonight, cya

ok, i dont know what i can do for the terrain, exept ideas. i can try to do triggers (no jass tho) and hero ideas.... whatever.

Ah, I think you give yourself too muh to say you're not good at mapping, as that is a good amount of work for 4 hours. In this case I'd say keep it up and don't give up!

And how did you make the save system? I haven't heard of any of them anything remotely "simple".

Im_On_56k , is totaly right. Making it Alone is much more easier.. if u do in group u always have to update it to all, when some one gives an idea and the other dont like , and then spent hours to make a decision..
i never thought work on group... need a lot of trushty.
well but if u need ideas give it a sleepaction in your map :P go play something else and the ideas just will pop up :) good luck :)

The best way to work in a group is to work with people you actually know in real life (yes, there is such a thing as real life :P ).

very funny. you dont need to send me your map or anything, just request help, and i will give it to you (if i can)

ORPG map is basically quests and respawns. Its not that hard.. Of course a nice offset, cute map, and some diferent shops and items. If u are creative, and get cool quests, it will be nice :P

What total bs. This is only the case if youre an uncompliant nerd with no social skills and cant let other people have their say. Id take Agent_Paper's side on this debate. Most the best maps are developed by a duo, trio or team of mapmakers. Take sheeptag, DotA, Burbenog TD, Ninja vs Sumarai, footies and ''Escape Shroom World'' for example, just to name the first couple that come to mind.

This post was basically a bump, cause i know its hard trying to find help to make an RPG ;). I also wanted to have my say, but you know...

Duos and trios are very small teams. If you get much bigger than that, you end up with coordination problems, especially over the internet.

Basically, the point of assembling a team is not to have everyone make their part of the map the way they think the map should be. It's for everyone to work together for a common goal. However, if you give someone any manuvering room in your instructions, they can take them in a different direction. The greater the number of people, the worse this gets. So unless you keep your team under control, you can end up with a very patchwork map. And that will look terrible.

This sort of issue has cropped up a LOT in The Last Stand project, making my job in that a serious headache sometimes.

i think that the only way to have a team of people work on a map, is to have them know eachother in real life. other than that, basacly you ask for help and ideas over the internet, like this sight.

anyway there may be coordination probs but who cares? u have less work to do, and the worst thing u have to do, when u receive the map section is edit it a little.

i guess its not hard with triggers, but doing terrain over the internet?
the turtel says,
(,,,)(*_*)(,,,)
also, sometimes triggers are really impossible, cause they might use regions.

Guys just a heads up I am going to be shutting the site down soon. I am just waiting on the NUON people to decide whether they want to transfer forum data and keep the discord. My email is [email protected] for anyone that wants to keep in touch and I have a facebook too. I will make an official post later. Love you guys and will miss everyone!

Someone email AtariAge and see if they want me to transfer the forum data over to it
  • Ghan Ghan:
Could probably keep NUON stuff around here if we wanted.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Hmm what to do about the World Editor site though?
  • Stephen Stephen:
I'd rather personally just own a backup of the Nuon data than see it go to AtariAge honestly. If it gets enshittified as per usual, or if some of the "regular" Jaguar folks get there, it's not gonna be fun
  • The Helper The Helper:
There will be a github of the forum data so the NUON Forum Data I guess would be available there
  • The Helper The Helper:
World Editor is technically Ryoko stuff not mine you guys can keep that I am not in that even
  • jonas jonas:
:( end of an era :(
  • The Helper The Helper:
Dont think of it as an end jonas - think of it as a beginning, because really my friend that is what it is.
  • A Andyoyo:
Thank you for the hard work over the years. It did not go unnoticed.
