Help me host!!!!!

I am really mad that I can't host anymore! I started not being able to host when i got my computer and I got an adapter for it so we could share the internet connection. Thats when it happened, and I have a feeling it doesn't have to do with the firewall because I have made new ports and I allowed it so that wc3 and wc3 TFT is under exceptions and exceptions are allowed. And I really dont think it's that because I turned it off completley once and I still couldn't host!! It has to be the router. PLZ HELP!!

Everyone has the same problem. It's always the router. To access the router first you need to find your IP address(not your computer's IP address but your local one). You cna do this by going to Start>Run> and typing in "cmd". Then in the command prompt typing in "ipconfig/all". You will see a few lines of stuff and look through them for your ip address. It will be "192.168.?.?" Now type that IP address into your web browser and there you go. Now look for something like firewall and then look for something called "DMZ". It should ask you for the last part of your IP address and type that in then it should have something like "apply changes" or something to that effect. And there you go, you can host now. Using exceptions through ports you can use but you'll have to have a static IP address which'll block out every other computer you have off the internet. I suggest just using DMZ and only using it when your playing on Battle.net unless you have another firewall that has exceptions. Also, if it asks you for a password just leave it blank because that's the default. Ryoko might have a better way but the way he showed me seemed only possible for certain types of routers. O and alot of people tell you to go to www.portfoward.com but that's for fowarding pports which requires a static IP address.

Hah you know it happened to me too. That;'s the one thing you have to hate and love about routers.
Anyway, there should be a router feature called "Port Forwarding". You'll need to open a specific port. Go to mozilla/IE and type in "http://192.168.1.1/" (most likely your router's IP or type in your router's IP) and find port forwarding.
Now enable the port 6112 for both UDP and TCP pathways and you should be fine :D

make a LAAAAAAAAAAARGE sticky thread about helping ppl host? :)

One thign wrong with port fowarding. Read my post.

You need a static IP address to do it and that'll block out the other computers in your house. You can use a lease IP, but that only seems possible for some routers and not all.

Thx xxxconanxxx
because i checked firewalls and hosting and did every one of those ryoko EVERYONE!!!!!!@!
Did u read that EVERY FRICKEN ONE!!
And none of them worked so for now i gonna try conan's idea.

I'm not kidding xxxconanxxx what do u mean web browser?

Where do I go to find that?

Plz dont call me stupid.

which one?

xxxconanxxx it says ip adress 192.168.11
subnet mask 255........
Default gateway 192.168.1
DHCP server 192.168.1
DNS servers 192.168.1

What one u want me to use?

after the 168 in my last reply after all of those it has a zero
168.0.1
Dont know if u care but w/e

What conan is trying to get you to do is access your routers web based administration function. How you do that is open up your Browser, Internet Explorer or whatever and type your IP address

192.168.0.1 or whatever it is in the Address bar of your browser and press enter. That should take you to the configuration screen of your router.

I don't get what you mean. If you're saying it will lock other computers (in your network) out of the internet because of port forwarding or it will block 6112 for the computers in the network and enable it on yours?
if you meant the first one, 6112 and the ranges on it are all forwarded on my laptop, but windows firewall does a good job of what gets in and out. (It passed the shield's up test for 6112 and ranges)

To port foward you need a static IP address and when you enable your static IP, it blocks out every other computer in your home so they can't get on the internet. By web browser I mean the window you use to go to different websites like www.TheHelper.net for instance. The little box where you put the address is called the URL and that's where you put in your IP address. I would've said to go to www.portfoward.com but I tryed it numerous times and it helped me once but all it accomplished was making my mom's and dad's be blocked off the internet. So I suggest using the DMZ function inside your router firewall and having another firewall like norton or something in your computer but with an exception for Battle.net.

Conans is almost the exact same thing, only with minor details left out and less explenation.

You left out one HUGE detail. You need a Static IP address to foward ports and that's why people are having problems. Doesn't work if you don't have a Stattic IP address and even with it, only one computer can be on the internet and the one with the Static IP address is the one. I suggest putting that in the tutorial because people who don't know how to do this already will not know that you have to have a static IP address. Also, for looking up your IP address the way you explained, alot of people have numerous LAN boxes. For instance, I have 5 for mine and if I was someone who had no idea about this stuff, I would have lost you at the very beginning.

So how would you improve the tutorial? Write something up and we can add it. We accept user contributions of knowledge :)

Sure, but do we need to write the HTML for it or just write it in Microsoft Word or something like that? I can write the HTML, but it would take longer as I'm still learning. Also, you should add in the FAQ on World Editor about locking races and settings. Alot of people ask that question, and I've answered it probably more than any other. Plus, it can really mess up your game if you need to lock the game but don't know how.

This Sux!!

I type it in and it brings up a little box that says connect to 192.168.0.1
Comcast home networking

user name: [email protected]
Password:

and thats one of my friends E Mails

WTF!!!!!!!

Uhhh try puting your email in that box and putting the password. Are you using a Comcast router if they even have one at all? It should pop up with a ox where your supposed to put your password if you have one t all. But then again, all routers are different and I'm using a Belkin.

Your router should have a password when you first got it. If you don't just click ok and set one. It's important that you set a password for your router! But eh... comcast router? wtf? Do they even have routers assigned? If they do... that's really really cheap of them.

Well Static IP if you mean the IP assigned to you, then no it's dynamic. If you mean network, it's pseudo-static. Plus for me it works just fine. All the other computers can access the internet. Is it just me then or is my router really screwy?

I think on the new one they did change it, but idk. I don't really care whatever the government is doing right now because it's consistently absurd. Like what is RFK doing in charge of health anything? I love the bear story because WTF was that, but also, pretty much every time he talks it's WTF. Like even his voice sounds microwaved

The pyramid is fucking dumb as shit, no matter how you arrange it.
  • Varine Varine:
It's actually remarkably easy to make mayonnaise though. Fun fact, it USED to kind of be a French mother sauce. I believe that Careme considered it one, it may have been aioli but that has also built a different meaning than it used to. An aioli is just mayonnaise I mixed with other shit typically, I didn't start it don't come at me
  • Varine Varine:
It's very hard to do it on a large scale though
  • Varine Varine:
Depending on how you pour the oil the consistency can vary wildly, but that's true for most emulsions. I can only make about two quarts at a time with my robo coup, and if I have to make several in series because I forgot to order it becomes really obvious even when I do it. We have to wait and mix them all together to make sure we have the same thing.
  • Varine Varine:
Hollandaise is also kind of like that, emulsions require a very steady hand to do exactly the same every time.
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I live in an age with electricity so it's way fucking faster, but when I was just a boy trying to find my place I had some hardcore chefs that made use do things like that by hand. It is WAY easier to get right by hand because you control it and can feel it, but it takes soooooo much longer. And on the scale a modern kitchen requires... I serve 400-500 guests on average per day right now, if I had 100 then we could do things way better
  • Varine Varine:
But we can't do that. In the winter yeah, but I HAVE to get people through here right now so I can afford the staff that we CAN do that. We have about 100 days of summer, and if that summer doesn't make us what it will, then I can't operate the other most of the year with my staff. The owner is talking about closing two days a week to cut down on labor, I told him he should cut down on vacations and it did not go great. I do think I won though, I have to keep my fucking core staff and they have to be gainfully employed
  • Varine Varine:
Sure some of them might take a second job, but I can't just cut my entire staff to unlivable hours, nor can I can cut them off all winter if I want them to come back.
  • Varine Varine:
And also, there is no fucking way I'm pulling these hours come september. I only do this right now because I have to, the second I don't have to be the one doing it I won't be
  • Varine Varine:
I have a 5 person core staff in the kitchen, not including me or Chef Ben
  • Varine Varine:
Though two of those people are likely not making it this year. One of them has been replaced, the other I am kind of trying to. He's being a giant bitch, today I had to get onto him because in the three hours before I left he had taken like thirty minutes for cigarette breaks
  • Varine Varine:
And he was also complaining to me the other day that he was out of weed so couldn't smoke any before work that day, and was confused about why I was annoyed he was telling me, his boss, that he is smoking weed everyday before work.

I did do a rare thing for me and hire a girl last month without warning. Everyone was made at me because I started her at like 21, but she worked with me before and I was like don't care. She made 19 at her old job and I wanted her to come work with me, she is the best

  • Varine Varine:
I'm going to get her a raise at the end of the summer. She wants to go to school again, but I want her to still work with me so.... she kind of can just tell me what the price is. I can go to 25 if she keeps up. I need to get her onto line more, that's what she wants, but I need her where she is and it's not fair that she doesn't get the little bit of raise that comes with it. She can do it no problem, I've worked with her there.
  • Varine Varine:
It's just hard to move and train people unnecessarily right now. And also the line fucking sucks, it's not any more fun. This is turn and burn so I have the bankroll, and everyone suffers for it
  • Varine Varine:
Eventually we'll get it balanced, we'

we're starting online orders and stuff, but I also turn that off all the time because I barely keep up trying to be the best at Sysco shit
  • Varine Varine:
I think it's gonna be a good fall and winter though. We're going to have a good staff, they will get along, they will be able to manage the workload and the complications, they know how to really cook this year, like every person on line knows their steak temps. Some of them use thermometers a lot and they don't always use them right, but they do know how to do it. Failure, especially in this field, is the only way to get better. They'll get it
  • Varine Varine:
They won't get feel down while they do the thermometer, but we didn't have an instant read probe when I was learning. Like they did but god knows how off it is, you HAD to do it by feel. Even if the chef was fine with me bringing my own, it takes too long. Poke and know
