Help with DSL

I just got DSL, and I was expecting that I would be able to do conversation on the phone perfectly, while surfing the net. But once I turn on my ADSL modem and I pick up the phone, I hear these beeping noise approx. every 5 sec. And when I call someone and we start talking, what happens is in the middle of the conversation, I hear this static kind of noise (the kind of noise u hear when dialing using dial-up on comp) and we aren't able to hear each. But when I turn off the ADSL modem, the noise stops and we can hear each other. How can I fix this problem?

I am using Windows XP, not behind a firewall or a router (and I can play without a problem on bnet).

Did you install filters on all the phone extensions in the house?

You should. Usually the modem comes with a few filters or your ISP provides some. Sometimes you don't need them, sometimes you do.
