First off, this is not a tutorial on how to use the object editor or triggers or anything like that. It is designed to help people come up with their ideas for heros and thier abilities. Try not to get stuck to a name as you should come up with this later and do not want it to rule your development.
The first thing you want to do is think of a general idea of what you want the hero to do. Do you want him to take damage, deal damage, restore damage, help allies, or hamper enemies? Note that you can combine one, two, or three of these as long as you know that the more roles he takes the less good he will be at each one.
Next you want to find out how your hero does his role. He can do it by magic or strength, at range or up close, over time or all at once, etc. Generally this is where you choose what your hero's main stat is, and whether or not it is ranged.
Now design the abilities. Do not give them models or names, just what they do and how much damage and all the statistics. Start with a main ability that the hero can cast a lot, and does low damage and takes little mana. Then make a more subtle ability that should be cast regularly but not too often, maybe an activateable one like immolation. Then make a third ability that is more subtle and supports the other two and the hero. Finnaly make the ultimate ability, it should show the nature of the hero the most, and be designed to be used in more extreme situations, when the hero really needs it.
Now you start thinking of a general idea of the hero's personality. What element of magic does he use? What type of weapon? Possibly what model? Now that you have a general sense of the hero you can finnaly come up with names for him, and his abilities. Try to come up with a story if you can, and a short description of him and his role in combat.
Now that you have a working hero, all you have left is to make him and balance him! If you have any comments feel free to post, I will stay with this and update it when I can. If you have a good Idea for a hero, Submit it to AgentPaper's Hero Ideas
