Host: 1 to 2 minute Freeze/Pause

I built my Roomates two computers, almost Identical

Which is probably why they have Identical problems.

Here it is: They say, when they play Host, (they said anytime at first, but they've narrowed it down to hosting) That it lags for up to a minute, then they get 100mph abilities for about 30 seconds, while it catches up.

Packet loss? How do I fix that?

IRQ problems? It ays "you cannot change that value" I know there is a way to fix that, but I forgot what it was, and while we're here...

Diablo Problems? Can I work around it?

Lite on 52x CDrom

All MPQ files are copied over

All newest Drivers are installed Includein Liveware 3.0 (cept for the 5/11/00 edition of SBLive... Only the CD ones... (I dont' think that's it, but I wanna be honest here)

sounds to me like just general game lag... if they are both on 56k then it could be worse because theyre computers are zooming around, loading stuff in an instant and Battle.net is like some turtle.

This could be true or not.. i dont know for sure

The problem is on LAN, and Random, when hosting.

HE connected to me, me hosting, last night, via Internet/Cable Modem open port 4000, and did not have "The lag whose name cannot be said"

But the problem aint fixed, it's when HE hosts.

Lag Issues when Hosting on a LAN used to plague me.. couple of things I did seemed to fix this:

1) allocate 4 MB ram to the NIC cards... on both the host and all other connected cards. this can be done thusly:
enter this line in your system INI under the[386Enh] header:
irq3=4096 (where IRQ is NIC)

2) Rampage ( or comparable RAM defragmenter)

other tweaked setting done to System INI can also benefit D2 Gameplay.

thanks! I'll try the Ram Allocation... I NEED Rampage program I take it, the INI file change isnt' enough.

That long list of doohickies is greek to me, looks like it came out of Registry or System Info but I'll study it and see what I can figger out.

the long list is just a copy paste of the System.ini file in my C:\windows folder.

Rampage is not necessarily "needed" but I personally like it. it can be snagged from here : http://www.tweakfiles.net/memory/rampage.html
