How come when I play battlefield 1942 it lags despite

the fact that I have a 2600 AMD athlon with 256mb, DSL, 128DDR VIDEO CARD RADEON

What else do I need?

I don't get it----------LAGS even AFTER I have put my resolution to the LOWEST, uncheckeD everything that would cause the computer to lag AND UNCHECK SOUND!!!!

What is up with this GAME?
Could it be the RAM?
DO I NEED MORE RAM
help!!!!

definitely start with ram, bf doesnt very well with 256, expecially with xp, xp has much more overhead than 98. I would get another 256 atleast.

I would get at least 256 - 512 mb more ram.......the main problem ive seen with BF lagging is the video card.....make sure yu have updated drivers, id suggest at a minimum a ATI 9600 Pro or higgher....my 9800 pro 128 runs it very nicely.

since patch is out..i have same problem as him...before i played DC with almost no lag...now i can'T even try to play it'S lagging too much!! i have 768 ram and my system its the same as him...but i have amdxp1800+, where'S the prob now!?%!

FYI Battlefield Vietnam is very intensive too. A little worse than 1942

On my machine, I have seen BF1942 takes as much as 222mb of ram all by itself.

1. Disable all unessential services/background programs
2. Mucho ram
3. Driver 45.23 works best for me.
4. Play in rooms with fewer people

Verify the speed of your modem there:

If you have 50KB/s (500 Kbps) or more it's good.
Also what is your video card. They are a lot of Radeon and not all are fast.

I have 1 GB DDR RAM, 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 CPU, Ati Radeon 9500 Pro 128 MB RAM and I play all Battlefield (1942, Desert Combat, Vietnam) at 1600 x 1200 32 bit all detail to highest and never lag online.
But I try to play with 64 bots and game is slower. Also I think not all server are fast. So check the ping. And think too online game depends all time of the slower machine (it's logical since the game wait "movement" of slower machine during other wait it). So if somebody have a slow machine the game will be not fast.
