How safe is map protection?

I have been following the update on Map Optimiser and the bugs it produces. Is it worth taking the risk to upgrade to 3.4? The key question is how safe is map protection in 3.4?

I researched quite a lot on map hacking and map protection. Correct me if i am wrong on what i understood:
1)Map optimiser make it hard to recover the triggers
2)But as long as u have the right tools and u are willing to work on JASS u can still make a hacked version?
3)Map optimiser make also make it hard for u to make certain changes, for if u saved a hacked map in world editor, a lot of info is lost. Such info has to be somehow recovered, or restored manually?

So map protection only protects ur map from noobs, not from the determined pros?

Ok look at it this way, the only way it will get stolen is by someone who isnt a noob... its like that for everything... if it does get stolen then they know what thier doing and probrably wont ruin ur title :p

Also just dont save over ur own map and it will all be fine

Yeah its pretty much what Rad said, no map protection can give 100% guarantees, but Vex's one can sure as heck make life hard for anyone trying to access your protected map. Hard to the point that some might not consider it worth the effort.

And yes, NEVER optimize your original map EVER. Only optimize copies of the map.

Nots like ive been planning to do it :p but why not?

If you protect your original map, it's protected. So you can't open it to make changes, obviously.

Well yeah but what is it so important that you not save over it?? Will it be a crash for the computer or something

If you want to change it in the future?

1) The not for multiplayer bug in 3.4 fixed, 3.4b is up. Emiljir's bug turned out to be caused by widgetizer and the map crashed before using optimizer on it.
2) Did I ever call the Optimizer a map protector?
3) Map optimizer doesn't allow you to save the optimized map over the original version.

2)But as long as u have the right tools and u are willing to work on JASS u can still make a hacked version?
The only tool required is a mpq editor.

Only a retarded noob would try to make the changes in WE.

The current GUI reconstructors (some guys call them map unprotection) are totally unable to recover anything, they are even unable to restore JASS triggers because of the merge initialization method,

EWEloader no longer works on Maps with 'Make World Editor crash'

But Obviously anyone can access the map script, and it is intended cause the game needs to access it.

If u read my post carefully, i am discreet enough not to name any programs. Because of what Vexorian said, i managed to google and find the said loader. Now i can hack a older version of the map with this program, and cross it over with a new version. So ironically, the creator of the best map protection software just taught me how to hack better.

Bugs and protecting:
Just keep a non-protected back up.

Protection itself:
Anything you can protect, someone can un-protect

The risk?
Not huge, not small

Yes or no?
Depends, do you care?
Would anyone else?

The answer to life?
Page 42

My optimizer isn't a map protector.

EWELoader doesn't help anyone to crack maps, it just dissallows WE from crashing, but the data is still missing.

1)yes map optimiser basically makes it hard to recover triggers and also makes your map smaller
2)not sure wat you mean, but for invention man kind makes theres always a way of getting around them nothing is 100% and beside unless your map is like a popular LEET map (example: DOTA: all-stars) no one would bother spending days - weeks to try and un-protect it.
3)that is easy i dont know why you would ask it. OBVIOUSLY if you have common sense you always keep an original and give out the protected version. But if you think one day your computer will crash then burn a back-up copy into a cd. OR what i like to do is upload it onto a website but of course only you would know the direct link to download it. Or you could use hotmail and send it to yourself therefore it will remain in the account for aslong as you use the account.

I compress the original version of my map in a passworded rar file and have it some where on a ftp site.

Although Last time I had to format my computer was 4 years ago.

Took me a little under an hour.

It all depends on who your dealing with.

The map optomizer works well. Especially vex obfuscation; makes it a pain in the butt. No normal joe-schmo will be able to rebuild a map like that.

wow under an hour? (am very impress) =) like ryoko said it depends on who your dealing with and if your map is an interest for them. So unless the map you want protect is like your child, then i wouldnt worry too much.

It was for the good of Dota.

I totally revamped the all random and hero pick system with ZERO lag spikes and ZERO mass loops to find a random hero.

I also fixed Furions backdooring problem.

However, it was pretty much rejected and ignored; a great deal of pride from the (current) map author prevented the new hero system from ever being considered.

So... enjoy your lag spikes.

The (current) author also claims he has no knowledge of GUI and cannot even interperate it into the script file.

Which makes me think they do not HAVE the original GUI to even work with. The script file is added in last. Which is...somewhat suspicious I would say.

I have a real program that can open any map, it was made by me, I am proud none of the "map unprotection" morons on bnet forums noted it.

with the said loader (I refuse to name it), I can steal spell ideas. Some spells have very good projectile art and stuff. Also, some maps have very simple triggers which can be easily restored but the terrain is really good that is worth stealing.

1. Why do you refuse to name the loader? The name is in that a quote, and therefore you, essentially, have named it.

2. Why are you telling us all your devious plans to steal people's spells, triggers, etc.?

P.S. EWELoader!!!
EWELoader!!!
EWELoader!!!
EWELoader!!!

Object editor stuff doesn't llegally belong to anyone but blizzard.
And anyone that uses EWELoader is a noob, cause it was really easy to stop WE from crashing anyways.

Even so the map author could have used Widgetizer as he is supposed to .

And what people often call "Map Protection" never stops being a good thing to do for your map, you would want your map to be downloaded as fast as possible so people don't leave before playing it , right?

  • Varine Varine:
Today I had to scramble, I didn't work most of dinner service and no one told me shit. They had a rough few hours lol
  • Varine Varine:
I have two salmon, Sockeye and Atlantic. Atlantic is used for the kids salmon and the salmon and beet salad, and can also be added onto any dish or just as a side. Atlantic salmon will almost exclusively ever be FARMED, as it is endangered in the wild, and we ALWAYS cut them to 4 ounces.
  • Varine Varine:
SOCKEYE salmon, very different and this IS wild caught. We have an ENTREE version, and an add on version. The entree is 7 ounces, the add on is 4. Why? Because that is how someone that wasn't me set up the computer.
  • Varine Varine:
I had to have this conversation like ten fucking times tonight
  • Varine Varine:
The issue being, I came into work and had none of this whatsoever
  • Varine Varine:
    No one told me shit
  • Varine Varine:
So, taking into consideration that what I typed out up there is kind of some fucking nonsense that under normal circumstances no one really needs to fucking be able to explain in any rational way
  • Varine Varine:
Let alone trying to figure it out from a wildly stressed out me that is also on a phone call trying to get something to show up from Seattle tomorrow while trying to explain this salmon situation, that also is barely solved in maybe a few hours and and but I am bulking it with a few steelhead filets I have and that is a WHOLE fucking different thing to the 19 year old server that got put on day shift C crew that doesn't know who I am.
  • Varine Varine:
I did however really want days. I like getting off at 4 half the time, and that makes it worth it!
  • Varine Varine:
Also I hate my job right now but I think that was the hard part. Now it's just work
  • Varine Varine:
    @jonas I'm sorry? I don't know what you're referring to.
  • Varine Varine:
Once we hit winter I feel like I get to back to having a pretty cool job. Like I bitch about it all the time, but it's work. I'm still gonna bitch
  • Varine Varine:
All in all though I think this summer is going really well. Some complicated things, but at the end of the day it isn't THAT big of a deal. Not all of our servers have quite realized they are technically sales
  • Varine Varine:
Like yeah it is a substitute, but FOMO. Chef isn't getting this again this year, he has to figure it out, so it's slightly off on the menu, but that is more or less the LOWEST quality and price. Right now, steelhead is a real stealhear, right?
  • Varine Varine:
Like fuck off even I can do it
  • Varine Varine:
I am going to get one of my servers to do that in her server voice and you'll see my point
  • Varine Varine:
Maybe the bartender. Idk, it's one of my favorite things to hear them go from calm to customer service voice. They will translate it to like "The chef is trying to change that a bit right now so he does have a Alaskan river steelhead. Yeah like the one you might fish probably!" And then the girls can bat their eyes and do pretty girl server shit
  • Varine Varine:
At least that's how imagine some of them. Did you know mayonnaise is dairy free? A suprisingly amount of people don't\
  • The Helper The Helper:
    mayo is eggs right?

Seems I never watched the Witcher - looks like i have a lot of content

I got halfway season 2 on The Witcher and it lost me. I am going to have to pick this one up again later.
  • jonas jonas:
