EVENTS
Player - Player 1 (red) types in <Empty String> as a substring
CONDITIONS

ACTIONS
Floating Text - Create a floating text that reads (((Player name of Triggering Player) + |r + (substring(entered chat string) 1, 40))) above PlayerUnits [Player number of (triggering player)] with Z offset 0.00, size 8.00, color (100.00% and 100.00% and 100.00%) and 0% transparency.
Floating Text - Change (Last Created Floating Text): Disable Permanence
Floating Text - Change the Lifespan of (Last Created Floating Text) to 3.50 seconds.
Floating Text - Change the fading age of (Last Created Floating Text) to 0.00 seconds.
Floating Text - Set the velocity of (Last Created Floating Text) to 15.00 to 90.00 degrees.

This way all of your chat goes to floating text, and you don't need to use a .

The '.' is to initiate it, so if you want to speak normally without it going over your head. You can make it so you dont need the '.' though.

So, how do you make the chat only appear above the unit's head?

Try doing what the guy said earlier, to remove the general chat in the game, then make the chat over unit talk when someone says something, replace it with uhm <Empty String> as a substring i guess

Ok,im having some troubles.
first,I cant figure out how to get the colour codes in (the (((|cffffcc00 and |r)
I got the events,conditions,variables and the actions except of course the colour coded one :( step by step tutorial of that action anyone? :confused:
So i tried it without the colour code exactly as said hoping i didnt need colour and it still wouldnt display chat above the unit!
As well it wud be nice if somebody cud send a link to a site to download a map with chat above units so i can copy and paste or something.
help would be appreciated ;)

Sometimes when you do triggers that have a players name colored, you need to split the strings.


(btw sorry i dont have editor where im at right now)
ex:
(|cffffcc00+(Triggering Player's Name)+|r))​
Will make their name GOLD.

I lost that map, but as soon as i get WE back up ill upload it. Sorry.

Also color is NOT a requirement, you probally just did something wrong, like the unit u wanted it to go over wasnt set correctly.

I can't make the trigger..
cause the heroes you can chose off..
start in a building ( tavern hero selection )
And i can't do Select a unit do u know a other way?

It wont work

I did everything yu guys said to do. i tried to make it so u select a unit, then when you type, the message appears over the units head. every time i do though, this pops up.

(((Name of (Triggering player))) + (|r: + (Substring((Entered chat string), 2, 40))))

here are my triggers, please correct if wrong.

Events
Player - Player 1 (Red) Selects a unit
Conditions
(Triggering player) Equal to (Owner of (Triggering unit))
Actions
Set TalkingUnits[1] = (Triggering unit)

Floating Text - Change the fading age of (Last created floating text) to 1.00 seconds

Ignoring the fact that this thread has been dead for nearly three years, the problem was you simply typed the stuff in, instead of going through the string appendations. I haven't worked on WC3 maps in years but I think it's something like

Floating Text - Create floating text that reads _A_ above ...
_A_ = String - Concatination _B_ and _D_.
_B_ = String - Player name of _C_
_C_ = Player - Triggering Player
_D_ = String - Concatination _E_ and _F_.
_E_ = "|r"
_F_ = String - Substring(_G_, 2, 40)
_G_ = String - Entered Chat String

    The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats

    I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
