How to make an essay appear longer?

Then you get to the real world and your boss will tell you your document is too long and to cut it down to just the key points. But, a length requirement helps if you aren't sure how much detail you are supposed to be going into (and at least in high school, part of the purpose of writing long papers is just to practice writing and organizing your thoughts.)

Write it longer, then it will appear longer.

Very true. I always felt that if I just used more words it magically seemed longer.

You can have content and still be short. Papers usually have a length requirement.

Not if your taking a more advanced class... except for history, they always made me write like four page essays in those. In English though, a lot of my essays were maybe a page and no one said a thing.

Know what you are writing about. If you have little or no knowledge with your topic, research or pick another topic.

doesnt work for high schools where the paper is judged on how many words, and periods dont count xD (like mine)

At my high school, teachers grade you on how well you covered the topic, the length doesn't really matters, unless you only wrote like half of page, then it's pretty clear that you did not cover the entire topic.

My point is, usually, to cover all the required aspects, you need two pages or more. At least that's how it is with our essays.

When I did History my essays generally ended up two to three pages long. If I was short on time and subject matter, then I simply re-iterated my previous points, but worded very differently, to the point where they appeared to be two somewhat different points. I'm quite suprised it worked actually :D

Generally the essays where I had a ton of time were best. I need to take time to put my thoughts into appropiate words. Which is why I suck at exam essays, cursed time limits.

To be honest, I could've used this for my Western Civilization class. I was researching Druids, which wasn't as easy as I hoped. It took me forever to write the five page minimum.

My former teachers had such page requirements as well when I started school, but when I got past 9th grade they changed it to word requirements instead:(
example: write an essay of 500-1000words.
That kind of makes that video redundant at my old school:p

And it looks so awfull with all that space between the lines. Even tho it helps the teachers when they correct the essay later on:eek:

I had page requirements for like a year... well it was changed to word requirements because they didn't state the size of paper required, and then I somehow got placed into college classes for English-related courses and after that it was like 'If you really want me to give you a requirement I would prefer it's over half a page and has to have all of the paragraphs.'

Use a font size like this. It not only makes you look cool, but your paper will be longer.

Seriously though. Wright your damn paper. Your going to get a much better mark that way.

Use longer quotes to emphasize your points. Also, make sure it's double-spaced.

I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
