howto: change the sound for an ability

This can be done for any ability, the one that I did is making the Avatar for the Mountain King have no sound.

1) open the sound editor and export the avatar.wav file (the file is located in: Sounds\Internal\Abilities\Spells\Human\Avatar\Avatar.wav)

2) open the avatar.wav file with a wav file editor (i used cool edit 2000) and change the sound to what you want it to be. DO NOT change the length of the sound, this may cause warcraft to crash.

3)save the new file as Avatar.wav

4)open the import manager and import the new avatar.wav file.

5)change the path for the new file to: Abilities\Spells\Human\Avatar\Avatar.wav

Thats it! The Avatar ability will make no sound now (example map attached)

(The process is the same for other abilities except for the filename and path.)

what happens if you use the "replace sound" feature in the sound editor to replace the avatar sound with a blank sound?

Using the 'Replace Internal Sound' command will take any .wav file from a folder on your computer and replace the in-game sound with the selected sound.

Example: I want the ability Mana Shield to sound like Bloodlust, cause I think that growl sounds funny. So I export the Bloodlust sound, and name it NewManaShield or whatever. Then I right click on the specific sound of Mana Shield I want to change, and it asks me which one. I choose NewManaShield, and now in my map, Mana Shield sounds like Bloodlust.

If you replace it with a blank .wav file, then you'll get no sound, as was the case with Humboldt's test map in an earlier thread.

Nice explanation, but I wasn't asking what the replace sound feature did, I was just wondering whether that was a shortcut way of doing what Humboldt420 did. His way just seems a bit long that's all.

Well, it is sort of a shortcut. Using Replace Internal Sound, you can skip steps 4 and 5 of Humbolt's explanation. I don't know how to get a blank wav file, but I'm sure it's not hard, and once you've got one you can eliminate any sound you want to, with that function alone.
