I can't play Diablo 1

AHHHHHH!

Nothing is working on my computer.
( apart from dad's sudden strike )

I installed the game, Created a character, and then click to start a game. the picture of ogdens tavern comes up and it freezes with the load bar about 2cm from the beggining. You then have to restart the computer.

Computer is:
Celleron 400
128mb ram
internal yamaha sound thingy
voodoo banshee
plenty of hard drive space.

I already tried alt ctrl del and closing everything but systray and the other one, and uninstalling and defraging and scandisk and norton system doctor,and nothing works.

Any thoughts ??

Ummm. I had a thought.

Can you have a version of directx which is too good?

diablo 1 works on one computer, all the time, and that is slower and has whichever directx came with diablo on it, but it doesn't work on the faster one with directx version 8a. I know I could play diablo one if I wanted to, but I just got another Diablo1 CD (COMPLETELY NEW, £1 !) and I wanted to play multiplayer.
