I need TONS of help.

ok this is total bs. the editor for w3 is so completely different to anything i have ever used and all tutorials so far have been less than useless. i mean OMFG. i got a whole list of problems that are super simple:

1. I cant select stuff after placing it, when/if i want to delete.

2. have to minimise the program on desktop, remaximise just to use the camera again.

3. cant place custom units. cant get them into player units draw-lists. cant do SHIET! only ever the same damn heroes and stuff, i mean seriously, other people done all this and way harder long before i have. all current sources of help provided 0 info on how to perform basic tasks. help file is worthy only of deletion.

are we really expected to know how to do all this crap when it is a unique creation program? personally, i like the editor for starcraft much better. god forbid i ever try using triggers for this thing.

if anyone would help me i will be forever thankful. this will more than likely get filled to the brim with more questions that i have.

im using this thing right now while i type this (not simultaniously) and i am coming across those 3 reoccuring problems. i have placed trees. i have too little space for stuff, i want to delete the trees. cant select the trees. this problem is the one thats really naffing me off. the problem of not knowing what the hell to do.

1. You must be in the same layer you were when placing the unit or tree or whatever.
Trees, for example, are Doodads.
So, change to "Layer: Doodads", select your tree, press "delete" (the key).
To toggle between "placing" and "selecting", press "space". (works in all layers)


2. Unclear to me... what "camera"?


3. You mean you made a custom Hero, but don't know how to delete a tree?
How did you do that?
Anyway, once you have your custom unit,
Unit palette,
Player,
<Race>,
Custom.

<Race> depends on the race of the Hero you made.


4. How to make a Hero?
Open the Object Editor.
Find a Hero that looks good,
right-click, "New custom unit",
change whatever you feel like changing...
Here, experimentation is the definitive key


5. Relax!

thanks a bundle..

ive made mostly melee maps for w3. but say i want to put in those raider dudes into a map, when even though the tileset is completely wrong. that is more to what i am saying. like how i would also want to place perhaps a hero like kaen kaine kaien kaienioasofnoangiaenig *ahem* you get the picture. i have suspicions that i cant do that in a pure 'melee' map with selectable teams. true or false? to place one i would need a perhaps neutral team, the only one in this case that can have these -other- units.

Well, "melee", for me, means:
you start with a town hall,
build from there,
kill everything that moves


Now, if you want, for example, a "human" player to be able to train, say, a Crypt Lord:
open the Object Editor,
find the human altar,
and edit the list of Heroes...

Or an Orc barracks to build Ghouls,
same thing, Object Editor, building, adjust the units list.


The Editor might "complain" that the map is not really "melee" anymore,
but it will play just the same.
The "secret" lying in the Trigger Editor...

sweet. tahts all going smoothly. on the subject of triggers, i notice i cant give custom amounts of money, only the melee one. got a solution?

You mean at game start?

Normally, there's an action that says:
Melee Game - Set starting resources (for all players)


Now, make your own if needed...

Maybe, something like:

Player Group - Pick every player in (All players matching ((((Matching player) controller) Equal to User) and (((Matching player) slot status) Equal to Is playing))) and do (Actions)
    Loop - Actions
        Player - Set (Picked player) Current gold to 10000
        Player - Set (Picked player) Current lumber to 10000

10K is, I hope, way more than your map will ever require to get started

(Note, this will give the resources to human players only.
If you need the comps too, change the "All players matching" to simply "All players")

camera thing is easy after scroling down or left mouse click+control to take nice shoots of your map u need to use the wheel if u got one and will become normal camera agen or at least i think..i dont remember and i also dont know waht camera r u refferng 2
