I discovered that making a battle.net clan is logisticallly quite hard. You have to get at least 10 people together at the same time, and then you have to get everyone to join the clan within the space of about 30 secs or a minute. Pretty damn hard...

LOL

Thats why SD_Cylone, SD_Dough, and SD_Dark and I are not an official clan. We got no one else.

Plus we've been life freinds for about 6 years, and half of em are related.

But theres no opt on BNET. And people we meet come and go, so.....

[edit] Oh oh... don't for get SD_Fizzle... for shizzle, my nizzle. Hes that 'cat' from upstais...who plays on my comps... LOL. Think about a 6'3" irish red head.... who uses ebonics & slang as regular vocabulary.

I fear for you everyone in this forum is to ambitious to join a map making clan.

I used to want to, but now I guess its not as big a deal anymore. Especially when we take a look at clan MoMM (Masters of Map Making), and how the clan is always under pressure to release good maps, something which they are yet to do (because they haven't released any maps yet as far as I know). And their credibility is slowly coming into question, especially after 1 of their members got banned from the clan and then started to backstab them on the battle.net mapmaking forum.

Also, map making becomes too tough when you start having to collaborate with other people on it.

Yes, but it really would be nice to have something like that :)
Although, in my opinion if ppl from this forum, for an example, really wanted to pull this through, it shouldnt be organized by individual guys like Kilik or Mind (no offense guys)...
Stuff like the clan name, should be decided by more people.
But it would be nice if it had some association to this forum ;)

Anyway, if you guys really want to do this, make a new topic...

I also don't want to join or rule a "map making clan" because it's too hard to make an level together.
Perhaps an episode, but not a level.

well for those who like the idea of meeting up "live" just to chat about anything, there's nothing stopping us from just meeting on a weekly basis on bnet, its an idea I tossed around a while ago, but no one responded so I dumped it.

The only issue is that we are in so many different time zones, meeting up is pretty damn hard to do.

Having a small amount of people working on 1 map would be something to seriously try.
Currently we all have skills with different aspects of map making but the reason we rarely realease anything is because there is certain tasks that some people hate and we tend to either take a long time or not want to do a part and so we just stop working on the project.
I myself hate terrain and unit creation, but excel in triggers, abilities, and can do cinematics.
The first step would be choosing a game type and writing a story board.

Uh, well without trying to be egotistical, my skills in the editor extend to nearly all areas - its pretty much a basic requirement to be a mod here. My main weaknesses are skins and modelling, but they are not part of the editor, they rely on using 3rd party tools.

It's pretty much the same story with Ryoko, if he is weak in any areas, then he has the skills to catch up fast, which is why you can always rely on him for mapping advice (just don't rely on him for dating advice LOL).

but the reason we rarely realease anything is because there is certain tasks that some people hate and we tend to either take a long time or not want to do a part and so we just stop working on the project.

Actually, my main reason for not releasing anything is I usually do too much to my maps and so they lag like hell. And when I can't figure out a decent way to optimize them, I usually just give up. I guess that has to do with motivation though, which is a problem common to myself and many others. And this brings us back to that poll Mind made in that other thread - how long should we be spending on these maps? Are we motivated to spend 3-4 months making a decent map? If not, then is it worth the effort in the first place?

And what exactly are we trying to achieve when making our maps anyway? Are we looking for self-satisfaction, do we want to entertain people, or is it something else?

Food for thought.

No way man. Not wasting my time. I released both of mine on bnet and maps.worldofwar.net. Ryoko TD 1.5 had a MAJOR overhaul, and is in the testing phase.

When I came here, I didn't know a damn thing. Thanks, thehelper. Don't know where I would be if I wasn't persistant.

I know. I am procrastinating the release of 1.5. Big time.

All of the above. Love warcraft. Love programming. Love playing online with people. Nother reason? I made my first hero siege because I had dislikes about all the others I was playing. So BOOM, I made my own instead.

To have a goal, to be entertained.

General chit-chat
Help Users
  • No one is chatting at the moment.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Actually I was just playing with having some kind of mention of the food forum and recipes on the main page to test and see if it would engage some of those people to post something. It is just weird to get so much traffic and no engagement
  • The Helper The Helper:
So what it really is me trying to implement some kind of better site navigation not change the whole theme of the site
  • Varine Varine:
How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air
  • The Helper The Helper:
New dessert added to recipes Southern Pecan Praline Cake https://www.thehelper.net/threads/recipe-southern-pecan-praline-cake.193555/
  • The Helper The Helper:
Another bot invasion 493 members online most of them bots that do not show up on stats
  • Varine Varine:
I'm looking at a solid 378 guests, but 3 members. Of which two are me and VSNES. The third is unlisted, which makes me think its a ghost.

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
