Every summer in neighborhoods across America, boys and girls wait for the tingle of the ice cream truck bell that signals their early evening treat. And the neighborhood of Middletown Township, just outside of Philadelphia, is no different.
But that may soon change.
It all started when local police received a call reporting that a Jack & Jill ice cream truck was weaving all over the road. Was the driver another senseless brain-freeze victim? Was the weight of all of that frozen delight weighing down the vehicle, making it too heavy to handle?
No. The driver was drunk. Undoubtedly, unmistakably, distinctly, and decidedly drunk.
Yes, Yassir Hassan had broken the sacred “ice cream vendor/child-within-all-of-us” trust, but there was more absurdity at work inside that truck of frozen dreams. Hassan had stored several wine boxes where child-friendly treats like sherbet and gelato should have been.
But [brace yourself for a shudder] even that was not the worst of it.
In the freezer, right next to the ice cream sandwiches and double sundae fudge cups, there stood an abomination in amber … a bottle of frozen urine. (Also two bottles of the unfrozen variety.)
