Icon Issue

Ok I got this icon... called soulstealer I used those path to import it

ReplaceableTextures\CommandButtonsDisabled\DISBTNSoulStealer.blp

ReplaceableTextures\CommandButtons\BTNSoulStealer.blp

The problem is that when your about to choose it for your next ability its there but its not there after you choose it... all boxes are black..like it never existed

Probably doesn't have an alpha channel. From what source did you get the original .TGA image? This issue is encountered if you use the helper recommended image converter TGA->BLP with a non-helper approved image editting software.

Im not sure but i think its because maybe u picked an ability and that is under the other button in the position 2 try moving the position that is not used, im not sure hope i helped.

I got it from www.wc3sear.ch and it was .blp format when it was download...

And yes I thought about that eLjoka but I removed all ability from the hero once..and it still didn't show up

How about you try when yuo downloading it to like .jpg or sumtin like that.

Sometimes they submit bad icons up there and they aren't caught. Maybe you should try opening and resaving it as a TGA using the program i suggested in the link i sent you then re-converting it back to .BLP

i think u need to export with your pathname than u import and put the same name it works somtimes...

Hmm your BTN and DISBTN are of differing file sizes... gimme a sec to look at this...

Edit: Ok I ran a repair on it to see if it would affect the filesizes. The normal icon appears ok, but it did add data into the DISBTN. Here are the repaired files, purge your old ones, and try these two.

There are TONS of bogus icons on wc3sear.ch. I've had to repair a lot of them.

^^ he's not kidding, it's icon hell in there.

I'm trying to get off my busy backside and write stuff for Ryoko to add to the custom icons tute, but for now you should note that, if you convert the blp to tga format, a working tga will always be 12kb in size. Every single tga icon I have seen that doesn't work was 16kb. Take this as a guide to see what icons works and what don't.

I always resave a tga icon in Photoimpact to get it to work properly. This may or may not require removing alpha channels/selections from the image prior to resaving. With the icons from wc3search, I think a simple resave is all that is necessary.

so convert those blps to tgas and follow what I wrote above.

Darg did you see that thread by sud?

Basically if your using TGA, you don't add the alphas by selecting in Ulead.

If your using BLP, you DO add the alphas by selecting all in ulead.

Also sud has a program that prompts for alphas when converting.

Remember all those problems back in the day? How icons worked one way but not the other? Thats the secret.

And yes, wc3sear.ch added a world of its own problems we kinda hashed-out.

Still doesn't work...

But I don't think its the icons... I think its something else becuz once I also tried using a set of icons from blizzard...(the icons that r already in WE)

And it still didn't show up...

And Is there anything wrong with the way I arranged them in object editor...look at my screenshots..

No, your screenshots are fine. Send in screenshots of your import manager with both the BTN and the DISBTN entries showing.

I don't see anything condusive to the problem being with the way you've setup, but one thing that did catch my eye are the button positions.

You didn't specify a research position, so it'll appear wherever it wants in your learn skills thing. Leads me to believe that maybe you have another skill overlapping or blocking this one somehow? Try some different values for the research and normal button posititions just to rule this out as a possibility.

Hey Krak, I just tested on my end in a clean map with the repaired .BLPs I sent you and they're working fine. The issue must be with the button positions or something else.

Try overwriting a default ability (like blizzard) with these icons and see if it works correctly. If it does, then there is something you made an error on in your custom ability.

...plus I learned something I didn't know before....

I'm gonna see what I can do about the tute this weekend - I'm past giving 100% commitments though, given I usually break any I ever make. But I'll try.
