Ready for some interplanetary exploration? We've had the force shields, currency, and refuel stations all sorted out for a while, and now here come the ion thrusters we've been missing to make manned trips to Mars really viable. Currently, a return journey to Mars can take up to two years, with crew members having to wait a full year for the planets to realign, but with ion propulsion -- which uses electricity to accelerate ions and produce small but longevous thrust -- ships can get there within a reasonably tight 39-day window.

Is back. Probably.

Way less than 2 seconds, in fact you'd probably go past it in about 0.01 seconds.

This begs the question, what are the side effects. Einstien said that if you traveled to the sun and back in 1 day 100 years would pass on earth, and then mathmatically proved it =S. This isnt speed of light, but what factors apply =O. Plus is it 39 days at full speed, I know nothing of this "engine," however it would take time to achieve full speed correct?

Wow, that means Ion propulsion can speed up a vessel to about 20,000 m/s, maybe even more.

Sweet. :)

You wouldn't be going fast enough. The closer you get to light speed, the less your affected by time, but it doesn't really change much until like .6 light speed. There's a chart.
