Is DA:O worth it?

Hey, the ultimate pack is $60 on Steam right now, DA:O, the expansion, and all 9 content packs...

I can't find a demo so I can't try the game... can anyone tell me a little bit about it? I don't want to buy it and not like it.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

It is a game of extremely high quality, featuring a really polished and beautiful world.

Follow the critics when unsure.

I couldn't play this game for too long however as I grew tired really fast of the combat system. But it is a great game nonetheless.

I like it. The combat system is similar to WoW x WC3.

Mmm, sounds good... it's the combat system I was worried about in particular... what didn't you like about it?

I checked it out on YouTube and I liked the look of it, so I bought it. Downloading right now, 24GB :p -- at my normal speed that should only take 2 hours, but right now, it'll be about 15 hours :(, why am I being capped at 400KB/s?!?! why steam WHY...

You should've bought the DVDs or something.

The combat system reminded me of the old Infinity engine used in Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale/etc but the emphasis was more on DPS than important attacks and the such, and that's what I don't like. I like it more when characters hit less frequently but on more important occasions, I don't know why. :)

Haha, that'd take too long. Only took ~15 hours (although 2 woud've been better), I like having my games with Steam, I can delete them at will and re-install them whenever I want without needing physical media :D

Having played Mass Effect 2, I quite like the combat system although I don't pause that often, yet...

The only thing i ever disliked about DA:O is the skills. They are so way out there, some are so weak it's not worth it others are too powerful. I went with a human mage at the start as well, made him a fire/burning kind of mage with some support. In short, it was very dangerous to have a party around me at any times. Looking diferrently, mass hex, confusion etc. can't damage you're party members and is great. Mind blast is awesome too. Anything from freezing earth magic is awesome as it has a OHKO chance on any normal monster, + petrify can sometimes work on tough monsters too.

But i'm ranting, altough my strong advice: Do all the quests in each place before you move with the story, so that you don't miss on the action. Do you're own (mages) story line first before moving to others (trying not to spoil too much here... X) )

Oh and Pausing+Mages is a life saver really later on, you'll get used to it xD

  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
