what is iso and what it stands for?

Not sure what it stands for but I can tell you it's an CD's image file.

International Organization for Standardization, as far as I'm led to believe. As NoName said, it's a complete snapshot of a CD.

yeah, its an exact copy of the contents of the cd, but i dont think that iso stands for what dabom said.

As far as I know (if youre talkin bout what i think you r) ISO is , as the man said, a standard that companies follow.
Basically, if a company is ISO certified it says to concumers " This is the quality of our product and you can expect this same quality from every purchase"
If you mean the file ext. I have no idea sorry.

ISO is the International Standards Organization -- they maintain standards for... a lot of stuff.

ISO 9660 is the document that lists the accepted standard format for a CD ROM... so this is really what people are referring to when they say ISO talking about CDs -- they are really talking about a file format that can be burned to a CD and will meet the ISO 9660 standard.


The ISO maintains standards for many different formats and a lot of stuff that has nothing to do with computers.

In conclusion to the confusion:

There are two definitions of ISO that would apply to the topic of this board. One is a standardization organisation. This organisation does many things, not only computer related. The other definition is what is called a CD-image. It is a file that contains all the information necessary to create a clone of an already existing CD.
