Javascript Bookmarklet Question or something better? Hubspot to Microsoft Access passing a Contact

I need to interface a web app with a desktop app and I am looking at trying to do it with a bookmarklet. Can I can I call a local program thru a bookmarklet using Java Script or does Java Script restrict you to the web? If it just gives a warning that is fine just as long as it is not restricted to do a local path instead of http whatever in a chrome browser? I would setup a Bookmarklet to be called from Hubspot then use Javascript to call MS Access from a path I know is right and hopefully be able to pass a parameter or be able to set some cookies using Javascript that are just local cookies for the MS Access program to read.

I am looking for other ideas. Is a brower plug in better than a bookmarklet? The Hubspot Contact HTML page I am calling from is not much help in getting my contact info from it but they do have an API but is says it is legacy and maybe not supported anymore. I think I can still pull something from the Hubspot page that identifies the contact to pass to the Access program. The Access system will have a synched database, kind of,

Would I be better off sending to a middleware URL and doing it from there? What are the restrictions of calling a local program from a website?

I could ultimately try to use middleware and just shoot to a website and call Access from there based on a URL created by a bookmarklet when I work out what to send as a parameter?

I need to hack this and make it work somehow the Hubspot people already said you cannot do this I consider that a challenge.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Is it possible to open a local program like Microsoft Access from a web page if you had full security do so on a Windows client?

jonas

You can change this now in User CP.

I know some apps are openable from the browser, like webex. Don't ask me what you need to do to get that though

It is pretty shut down I have not been able to find a browser side solution it looks like I might have to do an add in or some kind of web app redirect. I am learning some stuff on my research into this though.

I figured out how to do this, at least in theory. I can make the bookmarklet just set a cookie and then have a persistent program running on startup on the client side that checks for that cookie and reacts when it is present then clears it when it is done. Middleware - since I control the client I can make sure I have something running at all times that just checks for the cookies and reacts. No security risks just works I like it - at least in theory but I have been working with this long enough to know it can be done and this is just one way I am sure.

So what it really is me trying to implement some kind of better site navigation not change the whole theme of the site
  • Varine Varine:
How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
