lan problems, only 1 can host, big lag

i used to play warcraft 3 frozen throne against my brother from the comp in my room to the comp in his via lan.
everything used to work great but suddenly it stopped working. my brother has managed to get it back working but only he can host. and sometimes he can't host either. if we do manage to get a game working on lan i get huge lag and can't play.
As soon as he leaves the game all the lag goes away and it runs smoothely for me.
when i play warcraft normally with no lan or anything, it runs perfect and i get no lag, it's just on lan.

If anyone has any ideas on whats wrong or how to fix it, it would be greately apreciated.

Disable any firewalls and antivirus software and try again.

Try manually assigning the IP addresses on the machines instead of having them be gotten automatically.

or this might work:

clearing the Windows XP DNS cache. To clear it type the following in a command prompt: ipconfig /flushdns.

or just repair the connection (right click on the LAN connection that you want and click repair)

you mean change your dynamic ip to a static, go to http://portforward.com if you need help doing that
