Laptop wont sleep when the lid is closed

On my Dell Latitude D820, when i try to close the screen, the computer doesnt go into sleep mode and it just stays on. I have it set to "sleep" when i close the lid. Any ideas.

If you're using vista, sleep doesn't actually turn off your computer. It's like locking it just only it stops running programs. If you want it to keep info and shut off use hibernate.

so how do you know it's not sleeping?

because i can still hear its fan running. And when i open it, it doesnt go to log in screen which i set it to, it just starts back on. Also the "power" light is supposed to fade on and off during sleep. But it stays on.

interesting, does it do/not do what you described if you manually tell it to sleep (i.e. start -> sleep)

I already said its set to go to sleep once i close the lid.

Make sure you have the latest motherboard drivers.
