LoD install prob - 'Please insert Diablo II Play Disc'

Hey folks,

I'm an old Diablo/Diablo II player, and had gotten away from the game for a few years. However, a friend of mine from the other side of the continent recently visited, and they've just discovered the game, so I'd like to get back into it, to play online with them.

I've installed D2 successfully, and patched it with 1.1.

When I try to install the Expansion pack, however, the installer gets one blue bar in, and then asks "Please install Diablo II Play Disc". When I do, it fails to recognize that the Play Disc is there, no matter what I do.

All discs are original store-bought new copies, and none seem to have any significant scratching or dirt on the back.

I've read teh trouble shooting page, and see that there is a similar issue mentioned there - however I don't fully understand the suggested fixes, and could very much use a walk-through for 'dumping CD to drive' or some such I read about there using software I'm not familiar with.

Adendum to the above: I'm running an AMD 1800+ with 1gig DRAM. I've got a fairly new LG DVD R drive up top, with a CD-RW drive below (not sure of makes/models on those). Graphics are by a Radeon 9600.
 
i'm guessing you're referring to this page http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=adt0273p , this is a very specific step-by-step instructions.

So, follow those instructions on that page, reply back here if you need further help. Basically it's telling you to find the D2XMUSIC.MPQ file on the CD, copy it into your Diablo 2 folder on your hard drive. Then rename the file on your harddrive from D2XMUSIC.MPQ to D2MUSIC.MPQ.
 
it does not work because you patched it, reinstal D2 , and don't patch it, then you install LOD, you download the patch for LOD and then it'll work great, me i have a problem because i downloaded the torrent LOD, when i try to install it it told me to swap CD, "insert the play disc" but i'm using a virtual drive, what can i do ? :(

    It's an unnecessarily long and just not that good of a cord. Falls out of the little clip I put it in.

    And yeah I was working. It was a suprisingly good weekend, I didn't run out of anything until today and had most of resolved. I think the only thing I didn't have some solution for was halibut, but in my defense I got 45 pounds or something last Thursday. It took me like an hour and a half at the end of the night.

    I have two salmon, Sockeye and Atlantic. Atlantic is used for the kids salmon and the salmon and beet salad, and can also be added onto any dish or just as a side. Atlantic salmon will almost exclusively ever be FARMED, as it is endangered in the wild, and we ALWAYS cut them to 4 ounces.

    SOCKEYE salmon, very different and this IS wild caught. We have an ENTREE version, and an add on version. The entree is 7 ounces, the add on is 4. Why? Because that is how someone that wasn't me set up the computer.

    All in all though I think this summer is going really well. Some complicated things, but at the end of the day it isn't THAT big of a deal. Not all of our servers have quite realized they are technically sales

    Like yeah it is a substitute, but FOMO. Chef isn't getting this again this year, he has to figure it out, so it's slightly off on the menu, but that is more or less the LOWEST quality and price. Right now, steelhead is a real stealhear, right?
