M830LR doesn't turn on

By sleep wires I mean that there is a button on the front of the case called tentatively, "sleep" that puts the computer into sleep modem. Wires come from it, just like the power and reset buttons, with two pin connectors on the ends (just like the reset/power buttons).

However, that all seems irrelevant now.... I've discovered PII power supplies won't work with Athlons.

Time to grab a new power supply....

Power supplies for Athlons.. should be at least 300 watt.. 350 preferred and 400 work great 250's or less are fine for Pentiums... but real CPU's need a bit more power

It can be something really simple. Often (with some of the newer SocketA motherboards) I've noticed that the RAM needs to be reseated quite firmly. You may also have a PSU switch on the back of your power supply that you forgot to turn on. You should also try resetting the CMOS (there should be a CMOS jumper and instructions in the manual as to how to reset it). You should always reset the CMOS when you get a new board and when you flash to a new BIOS.

As for power supplies, I've got a 1.2Ghz Athlon sitting in the back with just a 185V PSU. Obviously it _is_ fairly important if you've got a 2X AGP card, fourteen HD's, six PCI cards, a couple of CDROMs and a large number of fans, but I don't think it's really related.

You could, in the worst case, have either crunched your CPU when putting the heatsink on (which is bad, but easy) or you could have a DOA motherboard.
