Major Battle.net Problems

Every time I try to sign on to Battle.net on Warcraft III on my brother's computer it downloads something and asks to restart and then I get an error whose details read:

This patch upgrades Warcraft III The Frozen Throne from version 1.15a to version 1.16a.

Registry error loading key 'Warcraft III\InstallPath'
The system cannot find the file specified.


RESULT: Patch failed


Before this happened I also had problems because I just couldnt get onto Battle.net with my brother's computer and I made sure that nothing stupid was interfering with the connection and someone here told me to try the telnet way to log on to Battle.net and through that I was able to connect to telnet but my Warcraft III pword didnt work (I guessed it's a different account thing it's asking for). So can someone help me with the first problem and then help me figure out what to do about not being able to log on?

The first problem is caused by that registry key either being missing or it has incorrect data. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the box and click OK. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Blizzard Entertainment, then select the root Warcraft III key and see if InstallPath is on the right. If it is, double-click on it and changes its data so that it points to the correct location of your Warcraft III install. If the value isn't there, click Edit, click New, click String value, name the value InstallPath and then put in the aforementioned location (i.e. C:\Program Files\Warcraft III).

The original cause of the above problem is patching the game under a Windows 2000/XP user account that's different from the one it was installed under, moving the location of the install or in some cases using Windows XP/Me's System Restore feature.

I was the one who told you to connect with Telnet ;) , and if you got to the username/password prompt, that means that there isn't an actual connection problem. Either your brother's Warcraft III install is corrupt or a firewall is running on his computer that's preventing the game from connecting.

The account that you use to log in with Telnet must be a Starcraft/Diablo/Diablo II/Warcraft II: BNE account, not a Warcraft III account. Don't worry about actually logging in with Telnet, though.
 
Hmm. The registry thing works, thanks, but I know I shut off the firewall on my brother's comp and it's not illegal or anything. Should I reinstall?
 
Usually simply disabling a software firewall (particularly ZoneAlarm) doesn't work... completely uninstall the firewall and try again.
 
Well I have ZoneAlarm on my comp and I have no problems and I cant get rid of the McAfee firewall just so I can play a game.
 
Hey Phantom, what you said has been clearly explained except i have no idea what your saying when u said "and then put in the aforementioned location (i.e. C:\Program Files\Warcraft III)."
From what you've said I can't find and spot to stype in that location into the String Value.

    Depending on how you pour the oil the consistency can vary wildly, but that's true for most emulsions. I can only make about two quarts at a time with my robo coup, and if I have to make several in series because I forgot to order it becomes really obvious even when I do it. We have to wait and mix them all together to make sure we have the same thing.

    Luckily I live in an age with electricity so it's way fucking faster, but when I was just a boy trying to find my place I had some hardcore chefs that made use do things like that by hand. It is WAY easier to get right by hand because you control it and can feel it, but it takes soooooo much longer. And on the scale a modern kitchen requires... I serve 400-500 guests on average per day right now, if I had 100 then we could do things way better

We have about 100 days of summer, and if that summer doesn't make us what it will, then I can't operate the other most of the year with my staff. The owner is talking about closing two days a week to cut down on labor, I told him he should cut down on vacations and it did not go great. I do think I won though, I have to keep my fucking core staff and they have to be gainfully employed

I can go to 25 if she keeps up. I need to get her onto line more, that's what she wants, but I need her where she is and it's not fair that she doesn't get the little bit of raise that comes with it. She can do it no problem, I've worked with her there.
