After some time off I'm back to mapping. I seem to have a lot of quarter finished maps lying around...so I picked up an old idea and I'm currently working on that. It is sort of a melee battleships, with some interesting twists. I'm thinkiing of posting the terrain soon for some hopefully "constructive" criticism...I hate terraining, but if I wan't to be able to test anything, I need to have a map.
"Short" list of ideas I am putting in:
1. Theres 8 "Normal" players, and each player is sandwiched between two enemy players. These players will be divided into two teams of four.
2. There's one optional "Pirate" player who exists for the sole purpose of running the ship boats, and harassing the other players. Should be some fun there.
3.Trading consists of getting a trading boat to another allied harbor intact. The farther the destination harbor is from the origin, the more gold you get.
4. There are 4 strategic islands on the map. There is a gold mine on each, and control of the mine nets the controlling team a certain amount of gold per interval (yet to be determined).
5. There is a computer controlled race (if people really beg me to, I might be able to make this optionally human controlled as well). The naga prey upon ships and cause an even bigger nuisance...especially if they decide to storm a base.
6. Each Island has it's own unique commander, though I might put in a random mode to lighten things up.
7. Commander's and their ships are where things get interesting. Many of the commanders are based off the CO's from Advance Wars. Sami, Eagle, Andy, and Drake are definitely in there. For example, Sami will have the ability to teleport nearby infrantry units around her to an allied base...a good way to stall an invastion, as Sami's troops are the best.
8. This is about fleet control. All weapons that can be purchased for your ships are relatively weak. They will be things like 3 levels of cannons, arrows, bombard cannon (a cannon capable of manually aiming for AOE) and AA rockets. Very limited weaponry. Also, you can't control a huge fleet either, partly from the mind boggling expense, and second because it is better to outfit your ships with items than to simply buy in bulk.
9. There will be other modes of warfare. As hinted by Sami and Eagle, theres also infrantry and aerial warfare. There will be units like engineers, carriers, fighters, and the like.
So, after reading all that, feel free to tell me what you think.
