THE prototypical computer whiz of popular imagination — pasty, geeky, male — has failed to live up to his reputation.

Research shows that among the youngest Internet users, the primary creators of Web content (blogs, graphics, photographs, Web sites) are not misfits resembling the Lone Gunmen of “The X Files.” On the contrary, the cyberpioneers of the moment are digitally effusive teenage girls.

“Most guys don’t have patience for this kind of thing,” said Nicole Dominguez, 13, of Miramar, Fla., whose hobbies include designing free icons, layouts and “glitters” (shimmering animations) for the Web and MySpace pages of other teenagers. “It’s really hard.”

Nicole posts her graphics, as well as her own HTML and CSS computer coding pointers (she is self-taught), on the pink and violet Sodevious.net, a domain her mother bought for her in October.

A girl designed this site - FYI. A little bit of TH.net history - her name was Tender Fury.

Since when is creating a MySpace layout considered a website creation? *sigh*, I always hate how the news represents things they don't know about.

Just cause guys don't have the need to create "free icons, layouts and “glitters” (shimmering animations) for the Web and MySpace pages" doesn't mean we can't do it easily...

So basicly what they are saying, they sign up for more social networks, and their profile page is thier "website". GG, this is worse than free forums, atleast for free forums you gotta do a few things. :)

Next time I see one of those monstrous glittering icons or another ugly pink-on-cyan myspace background, I'll know which gender to blame.

WTF? Did I just see that?
Guys, show 'em a few links to the JASS Section, and probably, Resources section.
They haven't seen HiveWorkshop :p
'this kind of thing' ; we don't like making shiny glittery stuffs, compared to other things like WE :D

I wonder if females are also responsible for the majority of bad photoshop graphics (think plastic wrap applied to lens flare) on the net?

Not to burst your bubble, but WE and JASS are nothing compared to real web design, and programming actual programs. :p

The only reason there are currently more female myspace&co. users is because the (mostly male) veterans have already learned to avoid it like the plague and move on to actual web design instead of trying to break the record for the most clashing color combinations posible on a single screen.

This article is uninformed, biased feminist(and with that i mean the constant whining that men don't have patience/originality) propaganda.

OMG QQ YOU HAVE THE SAME ff00ff BACKGROUND AS ME, MY FRIENDS, MY FAMILY AND EVERYBODY ELSE I KNOW BUT I DON'T LIKE YOU HAVING IT AS WELL.

No wonder that girls post aggressive warnings on their sites such as “Do not jock, copy, steal, or redistribute any of my stuff!” or, more to the point: “hotlink and die.”
Why on earth would i hotlink seizure inducing backgrounds webgraphics and other such stuff.....Hmmm i suppose they can be used as tools of torture :D

article said:
“This would be called the feminization of the Internet,” she said
.

Sweet merciful god it's only a matter of time before the internet is going to be reduced to seizure inducing backgrounds.

article said:
“I’m not surprised because girls are very creative,” she said, “sometimes more creative than men. We’re spunky. And boys ... ” Her voice trailed off to laughter.
God hell no.....Seizure inducing graphics do not make you creative :banghead:

Well in fairness to the women who do make awesome sigs their better than me in sig making :p

I agree. No matter how much effort you put into a map, no matter how many systems, algorithms and data structures you've programmed into a map, you're achievements will never compare to those of a teenager who can copypaste a C hello world program and make a sparkling tile animation in ImageReady. No.

Lets face it. You can't devalue someones efforts based on the medium they're using. It just doesn't work.

Uhm, games are different from sites, if a man has a patience of a woman, then he might have a really cool game. Most popular games are made through time. Like D**A which has been around for a long time.

If you put those efforts in their place, you can (probably) achieve that too.
You're not saying you're losing to teenagers, are you?
What I'm saying is :

Our efforts go to WE and JASS.
Their efforts go to those Web Programming, Glitter making, etc.
