Sci/Tech Many More Girls Blog, Create, And Build Websites Than Boys

If you put those efforts in their place, you can (probably) achieve that too.
You're not saying you're losing to teenagers, are you?
What I'm saying is :

Our efforts go to WE and JASS.
Their efforts go to those Web Programming, Glitter making, etc.

I was being sarcastic. :p

O_O
No way! Give me back my teaspoon of sweat and 5 minutes of thinking of some reply!

:p Okay, this post is quite useless

Blogging and creating Dyslexia-inducing animations does NOT mean the same as building a website from the ground up.
Contributing content does NOT take much effort. Doing it outside in the real world to upload to some website does, I agree, but that just means females are finding another outpoint for their social lives. Repeat: they are contributing content to sites, and using the internet to inform others of their social activities.

Either that, or the NY Times was misinformed, in which case the reason obviously is an increase in webcam girls :p

And just to piss off all those who say the equivelant of "Hotlink and die", I'm going to go find a free web host and hotlink as much stuff as possible :p

Completely off-topic: I hate the NY Times website. I'm a compulsive double clicker and everytime I click a word it opens a new webpage! Gah!

My Two Cents.

Alright guys, so ANOTHER news article doesn't know what the hell they're talking about, and it's biased. Can't we make one like they did? Lol.

Post it all in binary.

I agree. No matter how much effort you put into a map, no matter how many systems, algorithms and data structures you've programmed into a map, you're achievements will never compare to those of a teenager who can copypaste a C hello world program and make a sparkling tile animation in ImageReady. No.

Lets face it. You can't devalue someones efforts based on the medium they're using. It just doesn't work.

I'm talking about real web design, not "glitter" things.

This:
http://www.newgrounds.com/
Does not compare to this:

Now it's great that they're doing something productive rather than talking to their friends all day, but I'd much rather see something more....useful?... come out of it. But, lets not get into it here. As for the Gender issue here, I don't see where they're saying "Girls have way more time than guys do to learn this". I've meet many great programmers, both female and male, and the time and patience they have for it is based on the person, not the gender. /shrug

Conclusion :
Cross out that 'many more' from the sentence and let's just say we're equal (girls and boys)

Note:
That GIF Image above looks like a two-framer :p
A Web compared to that GIF is just rofl.

i love how every guy has began defending their "manhood" or their territory. just goes to show how territorial we are

I realized the same exact thing... lol.

How to see who is more skilled, WCIII vs MySpace:
Take a talented WCIII mapmaker, like, say, Darnyak and take a "talented" ImageReady user like they girl in the article.

Test 1: Tell the mapmaker to make a few 2 frame large .gifs involving some hearts and sparkles and then tell the competition to remake Eve of the Apocalypse: Twilight from scratch. See who's better at the oppositions work.

Test 2: Have them both code something in C++, see who's done first and with least bugs.

> competition

You mean opposition?

Hey, it's not fair.
2 Frame GIFs are not to be compared to a map :p

I live a very boring life otherwise.

23AndMe is apparently looking to sell the company. I wonder what that means for all the genetic data they have. I don't have an account for The Atlantic so I can't read the rest of their news, but presumably whoever would buy the company would then have access to that, and I don't think there are any HIPPA or equivalent protections on it
  • Varine Varine:
I'd bet it would be a treasure trove for pharmaceutical manufacturing and genetic research. I know they sold some genetic information a few years ago but they did that without identifying information attached
  • Varine Varine:
It's be like a really boring biopunk dystopia. My TV started giving me ads when I turn it on recently (which is real fucking cool), and now I'm imagining it just being like "bioinformation says you have cancer. Get a prescription for Avastin today" and then you get connected to someone that is technically a doctor but really mostly just selling drugs to people right on your TV since they have cameras now to give you a prescription.
  • Varine Varine:
So, buy stocks in whoever buys them would be my bet
  • Varine Varine:
I wish I had time to keep up on things like this. My investment portfolio would probably look a bit better.

I would rather not have anyone ever post then those kinds of posts
  • Varine Varine:
    lol what were they doing?
  • Varine Varine:
3D printer is working again. Had to get a bunch of parts, cuz I forgot I kind of modded it and then never finished modding it. Turns out thermistors aren't all the same
  • Varine Varine:
And as a result I may have gotten the hot end way too hot and caused a small fire
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I have a new not end and this one has the right things
  • Varine Varine:
Although I get these really weird artifacts, I think its from my bed not being clean. Not really sure, I've seen this before though and I think cleaning the build plate fixed it. Eh, I'll figure it out, worst case scenario it rips the rest of the model off and it catches fire again
  • Varine Varine:
I'm now realizing I could have cut out like 99% of this print and it would have been fine cuz I just need to see if a frame will fit over an LCD
  • Varine Varine:
    Oh well
  • Varine Varine:
    I'm not an engineer
  • Varine Varine:
Although this filament is kind of expensive, I should probably be a bit more wary of that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I love the whole concept of 3D Printers and am very happy you have one so I can hear about them
