What, specifically, are the dangers of making a map with a 256x256 size? Would such a map be feasible on Bnet?
 
they lag a bit, but i dunno every map i start working on is 256x256
 
Hmm. I don't think i see that many maps that size. I downsized my map a tiny bit, to reduce the lag potential.
 
personally if i had the choice id make them bigger and no u doont see many maps on b.net that are that big, mainly because no one on b.net has hit the RPG age where maps are huge
 
it doesnt really affect it THAT much maily custom models do
 
The only issue with a large size is it makes you prone to make alot more units and doodads that is the cuase of more lag. Just have the map file size as 2 megs or less and haveing the map size as 256x256 will be ok just a lil lag if anything.
 
Yea, most maps on bnet are downsized as most of them arent the epic type of RPG lol. Making the map big ALONE isnt really an issue (as stated above); its the natural tendancy to fill in all those blank areas lol, even ones the players will never see :p.

They also allow for more tactegies (TM :p), content, etc. which has a sort of inverse snowball (of doom) effect that in the end makes your map pretty laggy lol. Yes, I start with 256 x 256 so I don't run out of room too lol, and then downsize it from there to suit my purposes :D
 
With WEU you can make up to 480x480...Think if you filled that up with units and doodads.... :eek:

The only map I've seen thats 256x256 and people wanted it larger was Life of a Peasant & DoBRP - all versions...any others that you guys know of?

Well, yeah, but it didn't need to be any bigger. I'm talking about a map that people actually wanted it to be bigger.

The only maps that can be that big and be playable (unplayable referring to too much lag) can basically only be an RPG where you control one unit or something along those lines because massive battles like LotR maps just wouldn't work.

cause sseriously if i had 480x480 think of the Rpg you could make, i distribute it as a single player game, oh man id be in heaven

480x480 = nerd orgy

lol now that im dn fantasizing i just realised (thru math) that my map can have a possible, whopping, are u read for this? 1260 heros
 
WEU stands for World Editor Unlimited and can be found at umswe.wc3campaigns.com/weu. It is an add-on for World Editor that enables advanced features.

480x480 = insane amount of terrain to do so you might want some help if you even want to attempt it.

1260 heroes = WOW... where exactly did you get that number, lol.

gheres where all the numbers came from

10 races
2 genders
3 alighnments
7 guilds
3 classes per guild

guilds and classes are an approximate number

But will gender/guild/classes within guild make enough to call them separate heroes?

id say so gender will actually affect things besides looks

look at drow females the pwn the males, where as humans men would have a highers str wemon would have higher intelect, gender will affect depending on race to

guilds/classes will make a difference to

ill use theifs guild (God i loves theives!!!) for an example when u enter there guild ull be given a choice on what u wanna become , the choices are theif, assassin and either pirate or rogue (pirates will be able to sale the seas and attack ships giving a chance that they might get slaves and equipment) and another thing depending on your race and the class u choose u get a sorta bonus to, if a halfling became a theif he would start a t level 3 pickpocket or sumthing

another thing when i make my game im not gonna make it so after fighting 50 monsters u gain a a level and add a skill point to theivng cause that makes no sense, instead ill try to work out a way that makes it s own experience dpending on what units u cast pickpocket (and other thiving stuff) and what unit u casted it on so once u get a certain experiance level ull gain a level in pickpocket (or other ability)

what im aiming for in this RPG is a sorta choose your fate, not a pick a hero slasher

hopefully everything i wrote up above is understandable
 
oh forgot to innclude i tihnk i added this b4 in my one post but races and guilds will also give u an ability then u choose a class and get 3 more abilities (maybe only 2 do to some units having infravision)

oh yea speaking of infravision certain races will have that (goblins, dwarves, drow, deep gnomes (not sure if ill add these to the game) etc.)

but i tihnk we should stop postingin enigmas thread lol
 
You cant have 480x480 in weu, it shows 480 but when you put first 1 to 480 than put 2 one itll change 2nd one to 128

I dont know I have yet to find a program that can give my computer a stress.
Cept some virus or something that is designed only to make ur comp lag.

Find me a legit prog that I can play and that lags my comp and it is a new age for me! :D :D
 
lol ill just put about 10k imported doodads on a map , will that work?

    It's actually remarkably easy to make mayonnaise though. Fun fact, it USED to kind of be a French mother sauce. I believe that Careme considered it one, it may have been aioli but that has also built a different meaning than it used to. An aioli is just mayonnaise I mixed with other shit typically, I didn't start it don't come at me

    Depending on how you pour the oil the consistency can vary wildly, but that's true for most emulsions. I can only make about two quarts at a time with my robo coup, and if I have to make several in series because I forgot to order it becomes really obvious even when I do it. We have to wait and mix them all together to make sure we have the same thing.

I serve 400-500 guests on average per day right now, if I had 100 then we could do things way better

I do think I won though, I have to keep my fucking core staff and they have to be gainfully employed

She can do it no problem, I've worked with her there.

We're going to have a good staff, they will get along, they will be able to manage the workload and the complications, they know how to really cook this year, like every person on line knows their steak temps. Some of them use thermometers a lot and they don't always use them right, but they do know how to do it. Failure, especially in this field, is the only way to get better. They'll get it

    They won't get feel down while they do the thermometer, but we didn't have an instant read probe when I was learning. Like they did but god knows how off it is, you HAD to do it by feel. Even if the chef was fine with me bringing my own, it takes too long. Poke and know
