After the great success of my previous map test thread...

Seriously though, given the extremely low noise to content ratio of this forum,
here is simply the perfect place for
actually getting comments, not garbage.

Thanks a lot, you total strangers out there.
This forum wouldn't be what it is without you.
(Seems rather logical, doesn't it :))

On to the real stuff:

Creepy Ruins (for lack of a better name, I guess)

Multiplayer (up to 6, works in single too) melee map.

For the times when you are tired of seeing yet another Night Elf vs Orcs, or similar, settings.

You can choose between a couple of Creeps for your Race!

Furbolgs, Trolls, ... Gnolls vs Prawns :)

Then you build up your army and go kill the other(s) (business as usual)

The ususal melee rules apply (I hope).

Hm... what more is there to say?
I don't know :)

There's probably a couple balance, or other, issues here;
but, frankly, I'm simply not seeing them anymore.

All races work the "same way", sort of.
So, once you know one, you should easily be able to switch.

All comments, as always, welcome.

Q: Why aren't there any Spiders? I like Spiders
A: Me too, but there's a choice to make, I made that one.

Q: This upgrade doesn't seem to work!
A: Great! Report it here.

Q: Furbolgs are too strong!
Q: Prawns are too strong!
Q: ... are too weak!
A: Well :). More details please

Q: I played a couple "Creep" maps and they all s...
A: Sure.

Q: Why the comps are normal Races?
A: Because it works as is. Play with some people.

Q: Six players ain't enough!
A: Hm... yes, maybe. I'll see.

Q: This map looks familiar!
A: Good. Finally someone to notice.

Q: The "shop" doesn't fit the Race.
A1: There is no Naga Shop. This building, at least, has a nice under-construction animation and you don't see it often.
A2: Shops are different, by nature.

Q: There's not enough Items to choose from.
A: Propose some.

Q: The techtree isn't 42 levels deep, like I expected.
A: Indeed. And who would remember that one? Or even want to play it?

Q: It's difficult to see what's a player and what's a Creep.
A: Is it? Hm..., I guess I could replace the default Creeps with standard race units.

Q: How comes there isn't...? or Why isn't there...?
A1: Never thought about it.
A2: I did think about it.

Q: All Heroes are the same!
A1: Yep. "Heroic Prawn" does sound a bit strange, doesn't it :)
A2: The point of the map are the units.
A3: Think up a couple good race specific Heroes...

Q: I just clicked on a unit and my race was already chosen... :(
A: Yes, works as per the specs. There's some help information (not too detailed) lower right.

Q: If all players ally with each other, they all win!
A: Seems normal to me...

Q: There's no kick vote system!
A: I know.

Q: Will you ever stop making maps?
A: This one ain't that bad :)

Hope to read you soon

:O doh

dooh actually i was going to try ur map now ;) but i dont have tft but hopefully i will get it tomorow hoooorai XD

I see that you modified the standard units of the Naga race by using triggers in order to make a new race, without creating new, custom units. This, in my opinion, is a flagrant mistake.

Hm... in what sense? Could you elaborate this further?

The "Spawning Grounds", for example, can train all spawning grounds units of all races.
The triggers simply remove those that aren't of your race.

It's to avoid having to copy over every structure several times,
for tiny changes.

"Tiny" changes? Many options, including the "Sound - Unit Sound Set" and "Art - Model File", can change the custom unit very significantly.

Also, custom units take a lot less space than tens of triggers.

*raises index finger* IIII... have no idea what you're talking about :D

I DO think that the concept is a great, inspired idea though. That said, I think you could stand to do a few custom heroes per race. Some that I can think of: (off the tip-top of my head)

(Abilities are listed with the lv. 6 required (ultimate) going last)

Furbolg Kodiak - Strength-based with Battle Roar, Summon Bear, Maul (a leveled version of Misha's skill), and Devour (modified for a faster kill, and let's say HP recovery)

Bandit Highwayman - Agility-based with Vampiric Aura, Blink, Evasion, and Transmute, and can Shadowmeld

Forest Troll Mystic - Intelligence-based with Entangling Roots, Summon Berserkers (let's say a leveled version of the Ancestral Staff's Item Ability), Scout, and Tranquility

Makrura Wavemaster (a.k.a lobster dinner for you and 99 friends)- Strength-based (they're the most fun!)with Impale, Thorns, Summon Prawn (but have them be, say, comparable to Feral Spirits), and Reincarnation

Gnoll Lycanthropist - Agility-based with Wind walk, Sleep, Immolation, and Full Moon (something that would work like an automatic Avatar at night)... or Starfall if that's too difficult

Ice Troll Stormcaller - Intelligence-based with (this is too easy) Blizzard, Frost Armor, Frost Nova, and Monsoon

Jeez, I wish I could program well enough to keep up with my imagination...

Anyway, it would even be cool if you just had one race-specific hero each, and then did the second hero as a neutral. I'll even rack my brain and get back to you with more, if you want. This is fun!

Some other things I thought of:
It'd be good to give every race at least one ranged attacker, even if they don't actually exist. Ensnare is a good start, but to reduce micro while attacking, a ranged attack would be great. I played Furbolgs first, for instance, and it was a nuisance realizing that I only had one Tracker while the computer had pumped Chimaeras.

Using the Furbolgs as an example, I'd just make a custom unit and give it a strong ranged attack (cos Furbolgs are expensive and overpowered). You could use Furion Stormrage's little bird as the Shaman's attack, and let's say, make a Furbolg Guardian - another bear that hucks boulders like an Ancient Protector's.

Basically, I love the concept you came up with. I've got ideas but no way to program them, so if you're ever looking for an idea, I'd be glad to assist.

(edited for clarity... results questionable)

Each race has a ranged unit, except Murlocs....

Furbolgs are overpowered?
Are they?
They are also the most expensive in costs per unit and food...

As for the Heroes, well, my idea was to "invent" two race specific Heroes
and fill in the blanks with the neutral ones.

Then, however, I couldn't come up with a decent Hero :)
So, currently, there's only neutral Heroes.
It isn't that bad, I guess.
It's certainly enough to get an idea about how it works ;)

That said, I'm open for ideas.
If I get two "good" ones for each Race... I'll make them.

Ahh, there's where my clarity edit failed.

The furbolgs are overpowered, yes. I failed to say, though, that their individual strength-per-unit is balanced by their high resource and food cost. So never you mind.

I'm going to have to play the map some more - I guess I just missed the ranged Furbolg. You can bet I'll be back later, once I've fiddled around with it some more.

And I'll get to work on thinking up some heroes for you! :D

Mayo also has vinegar. Vinegar is a very important part of it, it's effectively a delivery method FOR vinegar but hidden

It's a neat ingredient. But yeah it's eggs. But a LOT of people think eggs count as dairy because of the fucking food pyramid the US keeps trying to make a thing
  • Varine Varine:
I think on the new one they did change it, but idk. I don't really care whatever the government is doing right now because it's consistently absurd. Like what is RFK doing in charge of health anything? I love the bear story because WTF was that, but also, pretty much every time he talks it's WTF. Like even his voice sounds microwaved

  • Varine Varine:
The pyramid is fucking dumb as shit, no matter how you arrange it.
  • Varine Varine:
It's actually remarkably easy to make mayonnaise though. Fun fact, it USED to kind of be a French mother sauce. I believe that Careme considered it one, it may have been aioli but that has also built a different meaning than it used to. An aioli is just mayonnaise I mixed with other shit typically, I didn't start it don't come at me
  • Varine Varine:
It's very hard to do it on a large scale though
  • Varine Varine:
Depending on how you pour the oil the consistency can vary wildly, but that's true for most emulsions. I can only make about two quarts at a time with my robo coup, and if I have to make several in series because I forgot to order it becomes really obvious even when I do it. We have to wait and mix them all together to make sure we have the same thing.
  • Varine Varine:
Hollandaise is also kind of like that, emulsions require a very steady hand to do exactly the same every time.
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I live in an age with electricity so it's way fucking faster, but when I was just a boy trying to find my place I had some hardcore chefs that made use do things like that by hand. It is WAY easier to get right by hand because you control it and can feel it, but it takes soooooo much longer. And on the scale a modern kitchen requires... I serve 400-500 guests on average per day right now, if I had 100 then we could do things way better
  • Varine Varine:
But we can't do that. In the winter yeah, but I HAVE to get people through here right now so I can afford the staff that we CAN do that. We have about 100 days of summer, and if that summer doesn't make us what it will, then I can't operate the other most of the year with my staff. The owner is talking about closing two days a week to cut down on labor, I told him he should cut down on vacations and it did not go great. I do think I won though, I have to keep my fucking core staff and they have to be gainfully employed
  • Varine Varine:
Sure some of them might take a second job, but I can't just cut my entire staff to unlivable hours, nor can I can cut them off all winter if I want them to come back.
  • Varine Varine:
And also, there is no fucking way I'm pulling these hours come september. I only do this right now because I have to, the second I don't have to be the one doing it I won't be
  • Varine Varine:
I have a 5 person core staff in the kitchen, not including me or Chef Ben
  • Varine Varine:
Though two of those people are likely not making it this year. One of them has been replaced, the other I am kind of trying to. He's being a giant bitch, today I had to get onto him because in the three hours before I left he had taken like thirty minutes for cigarette breaks
  • Varine Varine:
And he was also complaining to me the other day that he was out of weed so couldn't smoke any before work that day, and was confused about why I was annoyed he was telling me, his boss, that he is smoking weed everyday before work.

  • Varine Varine:
Like yeah I can tell. I don't need to fucking know.
  • Varine Varine:
So now he's getting scrutinized and will not be top of the list. I know I don't have the smartest people but I do expect them to have some common fucking sense
  • Varine Varine:
I did do a rare thing for me and hire a girl last month without warning. Everyone was made at me because I started her at like 21, but she worked with me before and I was like don't care. She made 19 at her old job and I wanted her to come work with me, she is the best

  • Varine Varine:
I'm going to get her a raise at the end of the summer. She wants to go to school again, but I want her to still work with me so.... she kind of can just tell me what the price is. I can go to 25 if she keeps up. I need to get her onto line more, that's what she wants, but I need her where she is and it's not fair that she doesn't get the little bit of raise that comes with it. She can do it no problem, I've worked with her there.
  • Varine Varine:
It's just hard to move and train people unnecessarily right now. And also the line fucking sucks, it's not any more fun. This is turn and burn so I have the bankroll, and everyone suffers for it
  • Varine Varine:
Eventually we'll get it balanced, we'
  • Varine Varine:
we're starting online orders and stuff, but I also turn that off all the time because I barely keep up trying to be the best at Sysco shit
  • Varine Varine:
I think it's gonna be a good fall and winter though. We're going to have a good staff, they will get along, they will be able to manage the workload and the complications, they know how to really cook this year, like every person on line knows their steak temps. Some of them use thermometers a lot and they don't always use them right, but they do know how to do it. Failure, especially in this field, is the only way to get better. They'll get it
  • Varine Varine:
They won't get feel down while they do the thermometer, but we didn't have an instant read probe when I was learning. Like they did but god knows how off it is, you HAD to do it by feel. Even if the chef was fine with me bringing my own, it takes too long. Poke and know
