Metamorphosis just aint right

I have a character that I want to morph/transform into another character as an ability. So I gave him the metamorphosis ability and changed his forms and all that. The problem is that when he becomes the new character he loses all his other abilities. I can find no reason why this is happening. Even if I make my own version of the Demon Hunter he too will lose his spell abilites.

Does anyone know why this is happening and know of a way to fix it so he can keep his abilities and still cast his spells when in alternate form?

You could make a dummy unit, and use a trigger.
Something like....

Events:
   A Unit begins casting an ability.
Conditions:
   Ability being cast equal to Metamorphasis
Actions:
   Replace triggering unit with your unit (you should copy/paste your main unit and just change the model file).
   Wait 20 Seconds
   Replace Triggering  Unit with your old unit

Its something like that.

Yeah, that doesnt really work. It takes care of changing the character and bypassing the metamorphosis. But he still doesnt have any of his previously purchased abilities. He can repurchase them, but that sort of ruins the effect of him transforming.

Thanks for the idea though. Maybe that will lead me down the right path.

teh problem is u give abilties with triggers (i understand that from abilities are purchased)

you need to have abilities from strach setted with object editor to make a morphed unit have same abilities with its normal form.

All you need to do is a trigger which assign learned spells to variables.
you will need 2 variables per player (if it is a multiplay map) when a unit purchase a spell u will assign it to a variable then when hero learns new level of an ability you need to assign its level to another variable

then you need to give stored abilities and their levels to morphed unit with trigger when methamorphosis casted...

And i suggest you to try bear form ability it may solve your problem but has no duration like methamorphosis, nor life bonus..

Exactly. If you can press cntrl c over the abilities and then move to the metamorphosis and cntrl v to paste them onto that unit as well. I just update it every so often and make sure both units have the same abilities.

Ah Ha!

Well I found the problem. Sort of. But Im still a little confused. Turns out that Metamorphosis already works the way I want it to. If I make a new empty map and make a character and make him metamorphosis into another guy he keeps his spells and all just fine. The problem it seems is with my particular map. As it appears now I dont seem to have any triggers that have anything to do with Metamorphosis, so that should not be a place for a bug. Any ideas on where to look would be helpful. Thanks so far though. This forum is an awesome place. I have been to others where no one is ever helpful, only condescending.

Ah Ha! For Real

Hey, sorry to double post. But I found the answer. And this entire thread would have been pointless if I had kept better track of what I was doing. I had created an earlier spell that I did not want Metamorphosis to use his other abilites so I changed the setting in Gameplay Constants that says Morphing Disables Althernates Abilites = True. At the time it didn't do what I wanted so I switched to using Triggers to fix that guy. Now some weeks later I created my own problem because I forgot to restore an original setting. Let that be a lesson to everyone. If you change something in your map make sure you change it back if you aren't going to use it. And dont forget that the Game Constants panel exist. For a while there, I did. There are nigh-on 1000 ways to mess things up so try to remember what you have done.
