Is there anyway to Alter the Minimap? Make it all black no matter where someone has traveled, or even take it away. Put a custom pic in there, or anything of the sort. I mean the in game minimap.

If not, what must I do to make it so that when someone explores an area, then leaves, the area turns black again, not dimmed out. In other words, the only thing a player could see is his radius of vision.

That is not the in game minimap though. I am referring to the Minimap on the bottom left when your actually in the game.

I did get the making a fake .blp file trick to work causing the minimap to go black. I noticed, however, that doing the same thing with a real image, size 128X128 or 256X256, would not cause it to do anything. Is there any possible way to have the minimap be a picture, or is blacking it all out the best one can do?

Odd, now I am getting an error and WC3 crashes.

Edit: Fixed that problem. For some reason the war3mapMap.blp file was showing up as 16 kb. Redid the trick and no more error. Still wondering if it is possible to have a picture instead of all black there however.

well just so you don't give up, you can, seen it done but I don't know how they do it... I guess if you make the war3mapmap.blp with a picture on it. it might make the minimap that picture..

I have seen it done as well, but making a .blp picture war3mapMap did not work. Anyone have an idea of what I would need to do to set up the minimap as a picture.

Odd Problems

I am running into some odd problems. If i make a text document, name it war3mapMap.tga it will make the minimap all black. I have read that you can also take a real picture, multiple of 32 x 32, and make it a targa file named war3mapMap.tga and it will cause the real picture to show up in the minimap, that is what I really want to do. When I first did it however I was running into a problem where the game would crash whenever the map loaded. Now it just wont work, it shows the minimap as if I did nothing. I know I have seen the minimap made into a picture before, does anyone have an idea of what I might be doing wrong? I am thinking maybe it it some obscure something such as the bit/pixel compression, size maybe? Here is a quote I found searching in google. As I said earlier I did exactly this, and I found these same directions several other places, but I must be doing something wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Matt

Preview Map Image:

Go into photoshop and create a 256x256 or any other proportionally sized document, suggested to be at least in a multiple of 32. Edit or create to your wim, and save as war3mapPreview.tga. Import this file into your map and erase the directory paths in the import manager.

On a side note, to place an image over the actual minimap, put a TGA in place of war3mapMap.tga

Ok, I now have it working. Did a lot of fiddling around, not sure if it makes a difference or not but I got it to work when I made it a 256 X 256 with 24 compression. Another problem I have run into now though. I want the picture to show all the time, but because of black mask all but everyones vision radius is blacked out. I cant take away black mask as I dont want peopel to be able to see past theire vision radius. I tried doing a trigger that would turn off black mask in beginning, then .01 seconds later turn it back on, but it would just show the picture then go black on the minimap.

My question is this.
Is there anyway to have black mask for the map but not on the minimap.

Guys just a heads up I am going to be shutting the site down soon. I am just waiting on the NUON people to decide whether they want to transfer forum data and keep the discord. My email is [email protected] for anyone that wants to keep in touch and I have a facebook too. I will make an official post later. Love you guys and will miss everyone!

Someone email AtariAge and see if they want me to transfer the forum data over to it
  • Ghan Ghan:
Could probably keep NUON stuff around here if we wanted.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Hmm what to do about the World Editor site though?
  • Stephen Stephen:
I'd rather personally just own a backup of the Nuon data than see it go to AtariAge honestly. If it gets enshittified as per usual, or if some of the "regular" Jaguar folks get there, it's not gonna be fun
  • The Helper The Helper:
There will be a github of the forum data so the NUON Forum Data I guess would be available there
  • The Helper The Helper:
World Editor is technically Ryoko stuff not mine you guys can keep that I am not in that even
  • jonas jonas:
:( end of an era :(
  • The Helper The Helper:
Dont think of it as an end jonas - think of it as a beginning, because really my friend that is what it is.
  • A Andyoyo:
Thank you for the hard work over the years. It did not go unnoticed.
