Me and a friend have made maps for warcraft before and are familiar with it and its interface and have done some coding in the past. But now we thought we'd try modding. we are not really sure how to go about it and what you actually have to do to start. like where you enter the code and such. Just wondering if anyone could offer some help or a tutorial reffering to help for begginers. Not to sure if this is the right place for posts about Modding, but ive search other sites before now and nuthing actuallysayz how to do it, and seing as this is a site for warcraft i thought id try here. thanx in advance everyone.

This question belongs in World Editor - it is where you will get the best answers.

Modding? What exactly do you mean by that?

Sounds like he's referring to trigger work.

Well... a huge number of mods are really just a map with new races, etc., etc. If you really want one where you add a new patch, good luck. You're probably going to have to leave everything you learned from triggers to the object editor.

Well me and my friend are making a full conversion NO TRIGGERS !! any ideas on how we suposed 2 do that?

OK then, that's enough of that.

I guess you'd have to edit the mpq files to actually "mod" Warcraft? Maybe?

Im doing exactly that (but my mod includes custom triggers).

Have you got any modding experience???

No

we don't have any modding experiance. when i say mod i meen where you actually edit the game itself. it isn't making a map of any sort, so no triggers, or anythin in world editor. i think maybe you need a modding program just wondering if anyone has heard about anything like that or has any idea how to do it.

I am modding the game without the world editor, and you do that by editing raw data, so it's not an easy thing to do if you don't have any programming or modding experience.

Where

How do you Edit the raw data ? where can i find any tutorials or help on how to start modding. Could you help me?

I dont't think there is any tutorials on the internet... Maybe i could write one :)

I suggest you know a bit about programming before trying to mod something...

This is quite possibly one of the best helping communities around, and help is never far away....

Some requests however, can only be described as.......

There's a sad sort of clanging from the bell at the stern
And the bells on the Fo'c's'le too
And up on my shoulder my absurd little bird
Is popping out to say "cuckoo"

So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye

thanx

alright thanx every one. umm you said maybe i should get some experiance with programming first, but like what kind of programing.?

Java, Jass, C, C++, VB... knowing one helps you understand a lot.

I guess i'm the only one who does this... Atleast on this forum.

    LOL! A tweak job!

this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably will have to give it some time to update.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I'm guessing it is not retroactive.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Next on the punch list: Update the server to Ubuntu 24.04.

One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots
  • The Helper The Helper:

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.
