Modeling units

I wanted to do that unit modeling thing, like editing so f.ex. when a Hero picks up a weapon, it shows in his hand. but I had to download several programs: GMax modeling pack, file converter, viewer, and so on. I found out that none of these were helping. I needed one more program: Warcraft III art tools. But when I tried to install this program, it said "Warcraft III art tools has to be installed in the same folder as 3Dsmax.exe." but I hadn't got any 3Dsmax.exe! :banghead: where would I get that? I got all the other programs from the same place on internet, but I couldn't find any 3Dsmax.

does anyone know how to get 3Dsmax without having to buy it? Can I download a former version or something?

3ds Max doesnt make a free version. Thats what Gmax is for. 3ds Max is more of a serious artist/programmer commercial type thing, and costs a lot of money because business and schools are more likely to use it than personal use for game modeling. Since Blizzard released tools for it, Im guessing that they use it themselves. I dont know of any places to get it free. But. You could always download it off of LimeWire or BearShare or something like that. Make sure to scan those files (they'll be .zip files) for viruses before opening them. Then you'll need to get a key generator or if you know someone get his code I guess. All highly illegal. So watch your self. -ALK3_Steph

I dunno what the "Blizzard Art Tools" even does. I've downloaded it, but it won't install, so I just don't worry about it.

One other thing, you can put things into peoples hands with attatchment points, as shown in this tutorial. You can download different weapons at various sites, but the biggest one at http://wc3sear.ch
