Monitor/Video card.

ok..

my computer just crapped out on me..

i went to go use it and i turn it on and i get a set of beeps like this:

--------- -- -- --

then i look at the monitor.

its black with that one blue block that shows the three colors..
RED GREEN BLUE.
it also reads: "This monitor is working correctly. Please check the connecting wires and/or your video card."

so.. i check the wires.. connected.. i check the card.. connected.

i unplugged everything, replugged everything (while i checkd the video card.)

i turn it on.. same thing.
i think.. hmm maybe if i turn the monitor off, then back on!

i try that..
2 seconds later the computer turns off..


any ideas.

The beeps mean something wrong happened during POST, so its probably not your video card or your monitor, check the beep code in your motherboard book to find out what the problem is.

sounds like the vidcard is busted
if it is a pci one put it in another pci slot
if it is agp try putting in a pci vid card ..
also couldbe a memory problem
how many beeps u got ?,,

i talked to a friend whos husband is a top of the line tech guy.. he says im going to need a new video card.. is he right?

btw, my card is a Voodoo 3dfx (with a big blue cord)..

i hear they went out of busines?.. and its not a pci one.. i was about to change ports then saw it must go there..

I didn't think AGP cards could go into PCI slots...
Try dusting out the computer and reseating everything except the CPU/heatsink.
I got this error a while ago, dusting fixed it.
