Alright, so I've recently purchased a laptop battery for my Dell laptop. To cut to the point:

The battery itself:
- it is flawed - it will refuse to charge the battery if the laptop is off (and will still still refuse when you turn the laptop on while the charger is plugged in)
- it only charges the battery when you plug in the charger while the laptop is on - and even then, sometimes it fails to work (I believe it is a timing issue)
- apart from these two flaws, works very well
- and may become an expensive paperweight if I completely discharge it (as per the two observations above, it should become impossible to charge) or simply over time (because Dell laptops are notorious at suddenly refusing batteries, according to my research)

The battery company:
- have been very nice as per their company policy, and have sent two replacements (the first battery didn't work at all, the third battery has the same flaw)
- have offered to let me keep the second flawed battery, AND give me a full refund on my money ($80 AUD).

The moral dilemma:
- should I accept the refund, or refuse?

I cannot decide, I feel strongly both ways (they've gone out of their way to try and help me, but they have sent me a faulty product which may become completely useless).

Thoughts?

Why wouldn't you want to accept it? 80 AUD shouldn't weight much in that company's wallet, but it definitely has some weight in a normal consumer's wallet, you know. So I would accept the refund right away.

Keep it, get the refund, offer to send it back if you're still feeling guilty (if you pay any shipping fees at all, don't feel one bit guilty). Why would you develop any form of attachment to a company that doesn't produce quality products?

Keep the battery as a backup, and use the money to get a working one. I don't know about this specific company, but where I work, a lot of returned stuff gets thrown out, if it can't be resold. Sometimes perfectly good stuff.

I'd personally get what I paid for. I have pretty high morals, but if I bought something, I expect it to work... Lol :)

    Actually I was just playing with having some kind of mention of the food forum and recipes on the main page to test and see if it would engage some of those people to post something. It is just weird to get so much traffic and no engagement

    The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats

    I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be

    Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that

    Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings

    And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that

    These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars

    Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality

    Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing

    Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such

    I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic

    I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.

    It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done

    I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
