mouse controls for Battlefield 1942

I just bought an adapter that converters my xbox controller so that it can be used on the PC. My problem is that once I tried to use it on Battlefield 1942 I realized that it wouldn't work because I can't change the mouse controls. Is there any way that I can fix this so that I can use my xbox controller with Battlefield???
 
Mouse controls work just like keyboard controls. In your controller profile (you should have one) set a keyboard control such as spacebar or something to your controllerss axis joystick point and go back to your game, enable joystick, and set your spacebar to aiming. It hould work just fine. I had the same problem with Unreal Tournament 2004.
