-i got a combination keyboard and mouse...but when i bring it to the computer with windows 7 which has a right-handed mouse to hook it up...i can't set the buttons differently for the combination keyboard and mouse. is this a mistake on the part of windows 7 or a limitation with the combination keyboard and mouse?

well, not satisfied with the failure, i decided to try out the option, enable program specific settings. it's not working. not one bit. it's not working for the mouse i can change the buttons for, nor the keyboard and mouse combination.

what is going on here? does windows 7 need some sort of update? on my netbook(windows xp) i can make the mouse attached to keyboard be right handed and the mouse connected to usb be left handed and vice versa or whatever. but on this windows 7 computer although it can find a mouse that isn't the one already hooked up, it won't change the buttons settings. isn't that strange?

I really don't understand what your problem is at all - can you give us the exact model/version of the mouse/keyboard, and what it currently does and what you want it to do?

Are you just trying to change what the keys do on the keyboard? As Slapshot said, letting us know the models would be good.

And you know it.

I think he is trying to have two mice plugged in at once, and have one "left-handed" and one "right-handed" with their buttons.
If you are using a Logitech mouse I believe their SetPoint software can be used to reverse the settings for one mouse.

it is a mk320 logitech keyboard and mouse combination. on my one computer it is left-handed, and on my roommate's computer, it is right-handed. i can't figure out how to change this. i've tried and tried, but i can't seem to select the keyboard and mouse combination in the mouse settings.

so anyway, contrary to my other post, i can't make the mouse and keyboard not be left-handed on my computer(the windows xp computer), as i assumed i would be able to.

but more importantly, i can't make it left-handed on my roommate's computer(the windows 7 computer).

even making the mouse for his computer be left-handed, restarting the computer and everything the mouse is still stuck on right-handed for his computer.

the mouse buttons just freaked out on me for the mouse that's in the computer! i was playing a warcraft 3 dota game and all of a sudden the left handed mouse settings stopped working! the mouse was all of a sudden right handed in the game! and it made me my hero die. i didn't know what was going on. but my hero wasn't doing anything i told him to. now i can't get the mouse settings to work for left handed for either one of the mouses, the wired, and the wireless! think it's a problem with windows, and not the hardware.

Did you recently make any other changes to your mouse settings before this new problem?
