For the past 12 months, she had proudly taken to the road as part of an all-female driving school.

But Emma Sherdley is not exactly all woman.

Until a few years ago she was a married father-of-two called Andrew.

She is, though, in the middle of treatment to change gender and has the legal paperwork to prove it.

But that wasn't enough to satisfy one client who claimed he had been shortchanged when he booked a female instructor to teach his wife how to drive.

He phoned the Laugh 'n' Pass driving school threatening to sue after Miss Sherdley, 42, turned up for the lesson.

'You have sent me a man. Send me a proper female. How dare you send a man with a deep voice,' he told Joanne Dixon, who runs the school in West Yorkshire.

I don't know what's more offensive: that this man would get upset about the perfectly professional clothing that a perfectly good driving instructor wears...or that the headline emphasizes his being a Muslim, as if that's the reason he's such a douche.

Then again, it is The Daily Mail. And it's an article about a driving school called "Laugh n' Pass". So, you know, let's not take any of this too seriously.

Darthfett, just curious, what does "man" mean to you?

If I was to hire someone at an all women driving school, I do expect a woman. I don't give a fuck about what it 'legally' is, but I would want a 100% women.

I'm not discriminating against trans, but it's like getting a ... damn I forgot how the saying goes but something like cat for rabbit :p

I for one wouldn't care one bit, just because she made some odd choices in life, doesn't make her any less of a person than you or me.

He specifically asked for a woman. I think that in this case, he should have had a woman instructer. Who knows why he wanted it. For all we know, his wife had been raped, and was uneasy.

Now as for "the company deliberately sent a man disguised as a woman." I don't believe that for a second, or the fact that he/she considered quitting his job, or heard any "abuse and threats."

It says that she left, because she said she needed to breastfeed her baby. Although it's an excuse, to me it suggests that she was trying to be somewhat polite, and get out of there. It also says the man phoned in, and demanded a woman instructor, and they refused. I think he's just mad at the company for refusing, and is trying to exact his revenge.

I agree with Darthfett. It was the companies fault not the guys. The guy acted like an ass but he is just a guy and everyone acts like an ass sometimes. He had a valid reason to act like an ass in this situation - plus he's a muslim and transexuals are TOTALLY against his religion.

People: the company did send him a woman. If anything, Emma Sherdley was never "really" a man; that's what "transgendered" means. Emma just happened to be born with a penis.

As for transgendered acceptance being "against Islam": Inquisition-era Christians hated Jews, and frontier-era Mormons hated black people. At the time, these attitudes were core values of the faith; if you said they were wrong, you'd be denounced as a heretic and probably excommunicated...if not killed. Today, those attitudes are recognized as racist, and (most) Christians and Mormons reject them. Religion does not excuse hate. Period.

Would we even be having this conversation if the gentleman had complained about a woman being a lesbian, or a Jew, or a redhead?

I live next door to a transgendered person and I am sorry but that is a man. Pre-op, post op, whatever, the chromosomes are the same and there is an adams apple. nuff said.

Only because they have own religion not means they can sue for a bullshit thing, next time they can ask nicely and even look on the driver if they want to be sure it's a female not so hard , even if I dont agree what other ppl do with theirs own body and soo on , well we cant force them change thiers mind . But sue because of a misstake or call it well I dont know what, but it's a bullshit anyway from the man to threatens to sue the driving school . But think If we sue someone for etc . someone have a wierd hat on the driver or a strange nose.

It's no difference. Why are you treating them differently and not even giving them a chance?

Same thing here, even though it's not a relationship, the guy specifically wanted a woman. Now for some people, standards on 'women' may change, just like the company's.

Not saying that they should discriminate against her, or fire her, but come on, it's an all women driving school, 100% women are expected there!
I mean, look at the trans up there! If you only saw a headshot, you would guess it's a gay guy at least.

How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
