I have been experimenting with a new program that enables certain VIA chipsets to increase its memory bandwidth.

What is it?
This is a driver for Windows 9X, NT, and 2000X. It will increase the speed of certain computers.

When installed on a computer whose motherboard contains certain VIA chipsets, this driver will reprogram the VIA chipset in order to maximize the speed of the computer's RAM.

How does it work?
This driver takes control of the main VIA-branded chip on the computers' motherboard, which is the chip responsible for connecting the CPU to the RAM and ROM and PCI and AGP and so forth. This driver adjusts the way that the VIA chip communicates with the computer's RAM.

Do I need it?
If your computer has one of the following VIA chips on its motherboard, you might need this driver. In all other cases, you do not need this driver.

MVP3 or MVP3G, labeled "VT82C598"
MVP4, labeled "VT82C501"
Apollo Pro, Pro Plus, Pro133, Pro133A; labeled "VT82C691" or "VT82C693" or "VT82C693A" or "VT82C694X"
KX133, labeled "VT8371"
KT133, labeled "VT8363"

Why do I need it?
ViaTech (www.viatech.com, or www.via.com.tw) has included a "memory interleave" feature in their chipsets since 1997. Many motherboard makers chose not to enable it, however. This feature can drastically improve the speed of memory access, but only if it is switched on.

I have Fast Page or EDO RAM. Can I use this?
No. This particular VIA feature is limited to SDRAM.

How do I install it?
You should have received this in a .ZIP compressed file. Extract the entire .ZIP file to a suitable location.

If your computer is running Windows 95, 98, 98 Second Edition, or ME, then run SETUP_9X.BAT .

If your computer is running Windows NT 4.0 or 2000, then run SETUP_NT.BAT.

After running the appropriate .BAT file, restart the computer.

Personal Note: Since I am running one of the VIA chipsets in the above list , I decided to give it a try.(I always love to experiment with tweaks)--First I ran SiSoft Sandra and recorded my memorybandwidth--Then I installed the drivers and rebooted.
OMFG is all I could say--My memory bandwidth increased by 26%.
Thats an 26% speed increase.
I highly recommend this progam-driver if you have these via chipsets.

WARNING---Even tho I haven't experienced any side effects, not all system configs are the same. So use this program at your own risk. It can be removed from your system with the add/remove program feature in windows.

No need,

I get 6.4GB/sec peak bandwidth with my 2x 512 PC3200's in dual channel on my A7N8X Deluxe :D

    I have two salmon, Sockeye and Atlantic. Atlantic is used for the kids salmon and the salmon and beet salad, and can also be added onto any dish or just as a side. Atlantic salmon will almost exclusively ever be FARMED, as it is endangered in the wild, and we ALWAYS cut them to 4 ounces.

    SOCKEYE salmon, very different and this IS wild caught. We have an ENTREE version, and an add on version. The entree is 7 ounces, the add on is 4. Why? Because that is how someone that wasn't me set up the computer.

    All in all though I think this summer is going really well. Some complicated things, but at the end of the day it isn't THAT big of a deal. Not all of our servers have quite realized they are technically sales

    Like yeah it is a substitute, but FOMO. Chef isn't getting this again this year, he has to figure it out, so it's slightly off on the menu, but that is more or less the LOWEST quality and price. Right now, steelhead is a real stealhear, right?
