My CD-Writer doesn't.

HI guys, I just took my CD-writer out of my old comp and put it in my new comp, and it reads CD' fine. I have just finished D/ling Red hAt linux 7.2 (which takes a lot of effort on a 56K modem), and I went to put it onto CD and bang, Easy CD-creator tells me I need to change my read-ahead settings. SO I click on change settings a trestart coz it says it will have to restart for the effects to take place, it does something for about 5 secs and reboots, I try to copy the data form my HDD, to the CD and it says there a no compatible CD recorders connected, please check that is is connected properly, and if htis problem continues re-install EZCD creator. So I checked, and I checked, I have re-installed EZ CD creator and it just wont do anything, I cannot use it to wrtie CD's. I am running EZ CD creator 4.02 THx in advance Grim.

how did you set it up re the master and slave settings ?

DVD drive is Sec master, CDRW is sec slave

The drive still reads CD's fine though? Maybe flip the master/slave setting, but the drive may need a firmware upgrade if available, or try a different CD burning program (FireBurner is cool for writing ISOs).

simple said firmware is like a driver for your cd-rew

i would personally set the burner to master
and if you can add dvd player to the harddrive as slave

You should put the DVD drive and CDR on different IDE channels

you won't be able to copy "disc at once" if they are both on secondary

although this wouldn't cause your problem....

RIght, I switched the IDE lines, so DVD is Pri SLave and CDRW is Sec master, still no joy. HOw do I use Fireburner?

well the saga continues. I ran fireburner, it ran the copyuing prob, and it made the red light on thr CDRW flahs a lot, and pretended ot do something. I took the apparently burned CD ouit of the CDRW drive and placed it into the DVD drive, its an empty CDR says the somputer. I try to load Fireburner again, It tells me my 15 day trial is up and I need to register. $30 dollars for a piece of software that doesn't work,my arse.

I also had the same problem when I installed my new burner. A quick update of Easy CD Creator 5 fixed my problem.

CDRW

It shouldn't matter if CDRW and DVD are on the Same channel. I have both on the same IDE channel and it works fine. Try putting the CDRW as the master, rather than the Secondary.

Bout time you bought a decent computer isnt it ??

Yeah, but what you don't know is that the CDRW still doesn't bloody work properly !!!
