My elevators are a mess...

Well, some of you may have seen the post in my map's thread, but in case you haven't, this is what I want to happen. The elevators act as a gate, so that when they are up, no one can cross, but they also act as a bridge to cross over a path. When they are down, you cannot cross the path, and you can walk over the elevators.

Now, here is what actually happens. From the ground, you can walk onto the elevators because WE will not let me place elevator walls in certain places, only in some. Also, you cannot get onto the elevator from above, for some reason unbeknownst to me. Does anybody know what might be wrong? :banghead:

Its all about pathing.

Elevator walls work like this.
Alive pathing = purple blocker
Dead pathing = walkable

So when the wall is 'OPEN' - its walkable.
When the wall is closed - its a pathing blocker.

You cant cross over because you NEED the elavator wall to make it 'walkable' or open. Hit 'P' to see the pathing maps, you'll see the problem.

Well, at the pathing, I found one issue. I want elevator walls on adjacent sides of the elevator, which it seems the pathing doesn't allow. Is there any way to do this?

Also, that still doesn't explain why I can't walk from the cliff to the elevator when it is raised.

Yes it does.

The 'dead' eleavot wall has 'walkable' pathing - which allows him to WALK over the cliff edge

Without the elevator wall, its impossible. (or, a similar 'walkable' doodad.)

One last question. Is there any way I can place elevator walls on two adjacent sides of an elevator?

The only reason it wont fit, is because some retard made the elevator wall longer than the elevator

I used a custom pathing map that fit.

If you go to a doodads pathing map

Press CTRL-D to see the REAL file name

And look through doodads, destructables

You can find different sizes

Every time I make a tutorial on something, people ask 'well why don't you have one on THIS?' and say things like 'I don't get it, that tutorials not clear'.

So I tell you.

The elevator pathing map
Alive: 4x8default.tga
Dead: 4x8walkable.tga

Now, if you hit CTRL-D in the object editor, you can see the REAL NAMES of the pathing maps. NOTE, some are under doodads, some under destructables, etc.

SO find one smaller like
Alive: 4x4default.tga
Dead: 4x4walkable.tga

Good news and bad news.

Bad news:

I looked for the pathing map that I needed, and it was 10x4, which they didn't have. So for the time being, I was stuck.

Good news:

I found a way to fix the problem. Place the elevator wall anywhere (preferrably near the elevator), then hold down ctrl and use the numpad to move the wall into place. It works, and I tested it.
