My Story/A Story/Being Sentimental

Hello.

I was viewing my user profile today and realised I joined this site almost five years ago (registered May 28th 2006). Well, I'm exaggerating a little bit, but still, time has gone by so fast - I'm a bit nostalic and sentimental at the moment. Maybe that's the reason I'm writing this post, maybe I'm just crazy. Who knows!

When I first joined this site, I was 16 and studied in the 9th grade. I'm not familiar what's it called in your country - high school, college or something else -, but that's not important anyway. I was a young whippersnapper (I'm not claiming I aren't one anymore) and it reflected in my early posts and reputation count: if I remember correctly, I achieved 100 points of reputation around the 750 post count. Plus I remember reputation, the very green bars themselves, being quite important to me. I hungered for those bars, but the quality of my knowledges and posts weren't up for par. Let me demonstrate one of my oldest posts:

Thanx, well i have been using waredit for 2 weeks and i feel kinda... noob. This was my first problem which i couldnt solve myself. :)

Yeah, that's me and obviously lying. 2 weeks?! I think I opened WE for the first the same day I posted that message.

Anyway, I started to take up JASS and learn about the more advanced features of World Editor when I started 10th grade (gymnasium, college etc.); I started to write tutorials and do samaritan work as a World Editor Help Zone (as it was then called) regular poster. It was then when I first understood that the length of my reputation bar doesn't show anything, it's the positive feedback from other members that really counts. Ah, great times: 10-20 posts per day. Wish it was like this now, too.

I think I wrote over 20 or 25 tutorials (almost all of them exclusively for thehelper.net) and countless snippets it that time, but I never imagined they would gain so much popularity. In my eyes, at least. I mean, I was quite surprised the other day (a few months back, when I first visited this site after quite some while) when I was browsing the WEZ just for laughs and memories and noticed my tower defense tutorial is still the most popular tutorial on this site (yeah, that's my ego talking). Then again, I'm really glad and thankful for such a site as thehelper.net, because without it, I wouldn't have ever taken up fiddling with the WE and writing tutorials to help others.

11th grade was the downfall for Andrewgosu - I started to post less and less. As I look back, the whole 11th grade was a really depressing period in my life, because I was quite depressed back then. Just that, my first ever girlfriend left me and I was quite heart-broken. Blame the women! Nah, I'm just kidding - it was never meant to be. But the damage had been done...

As I recall, I really wanted to be active again here when the 12th - and last - grade started, but after a month or two had passed from the first schoolday, I figured out my real priorities. I mean, I figured out what I wanted to learn in the university. And the decision was a big one: medicine. I'm not that off when I say that it's really difficult in any country to get into a good university to start to learn medicine. And that's exactly the case here too, where I live - Estonia. I knew I had to start early and pull all my muscles to take the final tests really well in order to get into medicine. It meant I had to struggle for the whole year and commit myself... the idea of being active here fell to ashes.

What can I say? In the end, the commitment paid for itself as starting from first of September I'm a student in medicine and a minimum of six years of learning awaits me. Yay or nay? I'm chuffed to bits, in any way.

The moral of the story? I really don't know, I just wanted to write this. I doesn't have to interest anyone. Per aspera ad astra? I've enjoyed my time here (and I'm not going anywhere).

Oh, a year ago, I forgot to post a picture of my Superman tattoo:

I own a legit copy of Starcraft 2. It's great.

Yes, I still loves pandas and no, I still haven't got a girlfriend.

But I'm happy and I'm enjoying my life - I love to live and so should you.

Andrewgosu,

Your favourite Pandaren

P.S.

I really don't know as to regarding the name of this thread.

:D

Yes, you don't have to care nor post in reply.

P.S.S.

Oh, I almost forgot:

How's it going, Romek and Smith_S9?

We missed you so much, people always come back and ask, "Where is Andrewgosu?". After all, The World Editor Help Zone isn't much the same without you being there, so its glad to see you are all well and fine.

As well, congrats on finding what you wanted to do career wise, have fun with the 6 more years of schooling though. :p

How's it going, Romek and Smith_S9?
Smith is still here, bu Romek just went on vacation (again) so he won't be able to reply for a little bit.

-Edited-

Glad to hear from you again, as always and forever you are a valued member of this community so don't completely forget about us in your success.
Hope to see you around some more too.

O hello, Miz. How's it going in the literature corner here? ;)

Yes, yes, I know AceHart left. That was more of a rhetorical question... I ...we want AceHart back!

Wellcome back, Panda.

In the two years I have been here (hm, actually today is my 2 year TH aniversery :d oh, w00t I joned at 08.08.08 xD) I have mostly cared about the maps section- what is created, what is liked and, I have to say, you kept the forum nice and clean, I remember that you would always step up and help out whenever help is needed. When you started to come by the section rare-er and rare-er, I must say, the place deffinetly wasn't the same.

It is nice to have you back and hear that you are thinking of increasing your activity.

Best of luck with university.

Don't worry, I'm *ahem* sure AceHart still lurks around in the forums, like you.
I realize you probably don't remember me, but I remember you, and your tower defense tutorial made me get into modding, and from modding I went to programming, and now I have a career as a programmer.
Just want you to know you made a difference ;)

Also, nice one on medicine. Although it takes time away from modding and SC2. :< I don't suppose you will do any SC2 modding?

While I'm glad you're back and all, did I miss the memo that said the rules don't apply to cool members?

Not trying to seem like a douche, just trying to grasp the rules of TH a bit more.

It's not an "I'm back" or "I'm leaving" thread. It's a "I love TH, but I haven't much active and I have to explain why"-thread.

You've contributed a great deal to this site, and you're an overall nice member. Also, kinda fun see some posts who ain't plain bullshit the community section. Anyway, I hope you continue living on the bright side, also, I am sure sooner or later you'll get that girlfriend.

Also, I had to check when I registered, turns out it was May 2006 too. That is bloody long.

Hello Andrew! Long time no see... I was actually wondering these days how are those member that joined in the same period as us doing.

First of all, congratulations on your success with the Medicine College! I am really happy for you and I also know how are you feeling, because, as of October 1st I am a student in Automatics and Computers (I can brag a little as well, right? :D).

Nice tattoo! I really wanted to see it at that time, but you forgot about it :(. Anyway, better later than never. I would like a tattoo as well, but meh, it's still regarded as a bad thing here and besides that, I am not in great shape and I plan to loose weight. If I do it now, it might look ugly later. On the other hand, I do have a girlfriend :p.

As you, I haven't been that active in posting either, although I did lurk everyday. I guess I am going to see more posts of yours from now on? (I sure hope so!)

In the end, what can I say? Welcome back, and enjoy the rest of your vacation! I hope you got to some nice places after taking the exams and all.

I do remember you. In fact, I remember almost all of the more active members back from when I was active. So no worry - if your name here wasn't mentioned, it's still fine. :D

Also, nice one on medicine. Although it takes time away from modding and SC2. :< I don't suppose you will do any SC2 modding?

I hope to mod in SC2, too. But we'll see.

I want the editor to evolve a little bit before I'll take it up, because it's a bit too obsfuscated and hard to learn at present.

It's not an "I'm back" or "I'm leaving" thread. It's a "I love TH, but I haven't much active and I have to explain why"-thread.

Sorry for being cheesy, I just felt like writing it. And it's not really a praise-me thread either - think of this as a way of getting to known me (and others who have posted here) more. :p

Indeed, oldie.

Indeed, grand oldie.

But I liked your previous display picture more. ;)

It's always nice to hear from you, makes me smile haha.

Ah yes, the tattoo. Indeed, it's better to do the tattoo, when you're in "normal" shape as of the reason you mentioned. When I did mine, the tattooist joked a little bit and told me I essentially got the tattoo for half price, because I'm a skinny dude and it might stretch when I gain weight later (larger tattoos cost more, of course).

I think I'm definitely going to post a few occasional threads about how I'm doing and etc., because it's going to be a really fun period in my life, now. I mean, studying medicine takes a lot of time and is quite difficult, but I moved to a another city and everything's really new for me - including the kitchen sink because I rent a 3-room apartment with 2 girls. I have a pink room... I'll take a picture of the whole "situation" once I finally get my moving things arranged.

Anyway, peace out!

Haha about the pink room :D.

I am not yet moved in my new place (my college is also in another city), but I will stay in a 2-room apartment with a girl, a very good friend of mine I've known for a few years now. However, my room won't be as cool as yours :(.

And yes, I do know college will take you time, mine will as well, I will sometimes be at the college 12 hours straight (I checked up the schedule for the first year) so yeah... But you still have a couple of weeks until you start the year :p.

And you better not deceive us with that picture as well, Mr Panda!

It's quite cool how I randomly strolled into Thehelper.net few days ago and realized that I've registered at the site in August 2005. (oddly enough, there's still a lot of the same people round here) Then, yesterday night noticed this thread of yours, Andrewgosu, and just tought - hey, someone else is sharing the similar feeling :) Feels like this is time of the year when TH gets old people come round and have a look.

Yeah, I haven't been active for past two years (Who's this Amfidamant again?), but sill, Ive spent a lot of time here back in the day (1500 posts for me is quite a lot, as I'm not really that much into forums and etc.). Might not have made friends or so, but that's cool - there is always time :) A lot has changed for me too, and it's quite fun to look back and see what you've been doing few years ago, compare yourself with the past.

I'm happy to hear that you've got into medicine school, University is probably best years in life, and you've got 6 years in it :) Good luck with studies, Andrew!

How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
