Is there a way to save a string typed by a player and use it as a hero's name? Trying to see if there is a way around having to name my heroes generic things like "Gunner" or something.

Do you mean like having proper names, like having "Carl Shootsalot" The Lvl 3 Gunner? If so then its in the object editor near the -text- category.

...or do you mean like when a user types, "-characterNAME" (no quotes) It would set the player's hero to NAME The level 3 Gunner...

Hey, you open the objects editor and choose the unit. Then scroll down to the text part, and type your name in the "proper names" part.
Then type the number of proper names used equeal to the number of strings you added. also change the the name part.

I think he was looking for more of an in game name change, for like on battle net so you could select your name. Sorry i don't have any ideas for how to help you. Maybe you could figure out something using the account name for battlenet or something.

Yeah, the first one (Text-Name) of a hero is what it says in the experience line. The other (Text-Proper Names) is what he could be named, like you could call your gunner "guy with big rifle".
