I don't have a guide, but I'll take you on a journey through the parts. Unfortunately I don't know of any links or have a digital camera to display what I'm talking about, so like a good book you get to imagine it!
Your motherboard manual might be of help to you. Generally on power cables there are three types that come from your power supply. One that is small with four wires, this is used to power floppy drives and zip drives. One that is about medium size and has four wires, this powers most of your devices, cd-rom, hard drives. Power cables are color coded, each color indicates a voltage, the above two described should be one red (5 volts), two black (ground) and one yellow (12 volts). The voltage information is only important if you're trying to find a bad power connector, so you can pretty much toss it from memory. Then you have one big ass block of like 16 wires. This is the ATX connector for your motherboard. All of these cables are idiot proof, you usually have to work very very hard in order to get them in the wrong way.
From the front of your case there is usually a bunch of little wires with black blocks with writing on one end. These go onto your motherboard and are the power switch, LED's on the front of your case, keyboard lock, and reset switch. You either need good eyesight or a manual to figure out where each one goes, usually there is a chunk of about 20 pins sitting together on the motherboard.
That covers all the crap from your case/power supply. With your hard drive and motherboard you should have gotten a few sets of cables. One of them will be 34 pins and might even have a janky looking adapter on it, this is your floppy cable. If you have a really old cable, you will notice that there's a twist on one end, if that is the case, then that side plugs into the floppy drive and all the way at the other end goes into the motherboard. The twist is there to signify that it is the "A" drive, and the adapter in the middle would then be the "B" drive.
The other is a 40 pin cable, which is your IDE cable, which is used for your hard drive and cd-rom. Sometimes these cables are idiot proof, sometimes they aren't, so which way you plug it can cause a problem (nothing serious, just your HD won't be recognized). On the motherboard you will need to find "Pin 1", there is usually a little 1 etched into the motherboard for where it's supposed to be, they also sometimes draw a bar on one side t show you which side is pin one. Now on your cable you need to find pin 1, you should notice a red line on one side of your cable, that's pin 1 on the cable. So plug it in with pin 1 on the cable going to pin 1 on the motherboard.
Before you go to the next step you will want to make sure that your hard drives and cd-rom drives are jumpered properly. You should have one master and one slave, and if you come up a drive short, then you can just remove the jumper (or set it so that the jumper is sitting sideways facing the power connector and cable, instead of straight up and down) and that should make it happy.
Now for hard drives and cd-rom drives, pin one is usually on the side of the power adapter. So play with your cable until you get it so that the red line is on the same side as the power cable. For floppy drives it's kind of awkward and you may want to see if you have a manual for your floppy, or if you can see where pin 1 is by looking at the little green board. If you plug the floppy cable in the wrong way, one of three things will happen:
1. The floppy will have a green light that's constantly on. This will damage any disks you put into the drive while it's like this.
2. BIOS will give you a floppy drive error, and no lights will be on
3. Everything will boot like normal, but it won't read any floppies you put in (most likely because the CMOS/BIOS settings don't have "Halt on floppy error" enabled)
That just about covers all of the cables that are usually inside of a PC, your sound card or cd-rom drive might have come with a small cable so you can get direct cd audio, at one time this used to be a really big thing, but since most people use winamp and you don't really need the cable to listen to audio from the CD it has fallen from the wayside in my opinion. If you want to hook it up, it's usually a four pin doohickey and is round and grey. One end goes into the cd-rom drive and the other goes into your soundcard, there shouldn't be any way to mix it up.

Luckily I live in an age with electricity so it's way fucking faster, but when I was just a boy trying to find my place I had some hardcore chefs that made use do things like that by hand. It is WAY easier to get right by hand because you control it and can feel it, but it takes soooooo much longer. And on the scale a modern kitchen requires... I serve 400-500 guests on average per day right now, if I had 100 then we could do things way better -

But we can't do that. In the winter yeah, but I HAVE to get people through here right now so I can afford the staff that we CAN do that. We have about 100 days of summer, and if that summer doesn't make us what it will, then I can't operate the other most of the year with my staff. The owner is talking about closing two days a week to cut down on labor, I told him he should cut down on vacations and it did not go great. I do think I won though, I have to keep my fucking core staff and they have to be gainfully employed

Sure some of them might take a second job, but I can't just cut my entire staff to unlivable hours, nor can I can cut them off all winter if I want them to come back.

Though two of those people are likely not making it this year. One of them has been replaced, the other I am kind of trying to. He's being a giant bitch, today I had to get onto him because in the three hours before I left he had taken like thirty minutes for cigarette breaks

And he was also complaining to me the other day that he was out of weed so couldn't smoke any before work that day, and was confused about why I was annoyed he was telling me, his boss, that he is smoking weed everyday before work.+1

I did do a rare thing for me and hire a girl last month without warning. Everyone was made at me because I started her at like 21, but she worked with me before and I was like don't care. She made 19 at her old job and I wanted her to come work with me, she is the best+1

I'm going to get her a raise at the end of the summer. She wants to go to school again, but I want her to still work with me so.... she kind of can just tell me what the price is. I can go to 25 if she keeps up. I need to get her onto line more, that's what she wants, but I need her where she is and it's not fair that she doesn't get the little bit of raise that comes with it. She can do it no problem, I've worked with her there.

It's just hard to move and train people unnecessarily right now. And also the line fucking sucks, it's not any more fun. This is turn and burn so I have the bankroll, and everyone suffers for it

I think it's gonna be a good fall and winter though. We're going to have a good staff, they will get along, they will be able to manage the workload and the complications, they know how to really cook this year, like every person on line knows their steak temps. Some of them use thermometers a lot and they don't always use them right, but they do know how to do it. Failure, especially in this field, is the only way to get better. They'll get it

They won't get feel down while they do the thermometer, but we didn't have an instant read probe when I was learning. Like they did but god knows how off it is, you HAD to do it by feel. Even if the chef was fine with me bringing my own, it takes too long. Poke and know

I recently had an experience with a waiter that really brought down @Varine's point about them being in sales. The first waiter just asked "anything else? deserts?" and when the table shook their head said "ok" and left. Then the other waiter came in and started going off describing the deserts and you could see the heads turning, and they finally got a bunch of deserts -
