Okay so if anyone has ever played reinforcements on Halo Wars you will understand what I am talking about.

Basically, you cannot build units, but every X seconds a set number of random units will spawn for you, it is up to you to figure out the best way to use these units to defeat your opponent.

Also, the types of unit you spawn are dependent on the amount of gold you have when the timer is up.

If your gold is under 500 then you get random tier 1 units (excluding workers)
Between 500 and 1000 gives you tier 2 units
Over 1000 gives your tier 3 units

Once the wave comes it subtracts the gold from you.

(All numbers subject to change)

Also, you will be able to pick one hero to use throughout the game.

I was thinking about using stock units for this game type.

You get one Hall and two towers as base defense. You can build up to 5 workers from the hall to mine gold.

You can also research upgrades from the hall (maybe an external building) so you have to be wise with how you use your gold.

What do you guys think? Good idea?

Please feel free to post any suggestions about this game type. It needs a name as well!

i vote meh; sound kinda melee to me with hall and peasant; beside unless both player play the same race, the unit cant be compared on a 1:1 basis.

and also first one that reaches tier 2 units basically wins, since lets say timer is
15 seconds
we both get same units first cupple of times
than one of us gets stronger units while the other gets the 1st ones...

thus the one with stronger units is more powerful will beat on the other player and will gain more and more gold, thus gaining more and more tier 2 units eventually tier 3 ones....

balancing the game would be really hard

The whole idea of Random Units is silly.
I've gotten a certain hero four times in a row with a game, it being randomed.
Thirty heroes.
(1/30)^4 chance of that happening, which is ridiculous.

The idea makes sense but is bad, the tier thing being more powerful is silly, it's a bad idea all around.

Well the timer wouldn't be 15 seconds it would be something like 3 minutes, so you need to keep your stuff alive.

Also, you only gain gold from mining it, so it would be advantageous to attack your enemies workers.

And I said in the beginning you wouldn't be getting a random hero, you would pick your hero.

I wouldn't find it fun, but what am I compared to people who like DotA? They like it and I don't. Same thing could happen for this type of map (if you were to make it).

I personally make w/e maps I am currently interested in, I like to challenge myself, not please other people with what they like. (This may be why I have like 4 WIP maps though

If the timer stays the same you can never reach a next tier, because gold is always substracted...

I think you should make units available after the timer expires and if you reach a certain amount of gold (e.g. 1000), you can buy more types of units.

The more you buy, the harder it might become to get new units.

Don't make three different tiers. Make sure that every unit - even the unit you can buy from the beginning - is useful late game.

Having more money means that you can have a bigger range of variety in your army so you can handle more situations.

This would make it a very strategic game.

  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
