Net SEND (dos command)

Hi!

Is it possible to send a messege by using the "net send" command to my friends pc? We are not in a local network, but we have both internet!

p.s. I know MSN messenger, yahoo messenger... All of them!

You can't do this unless you're on the same network as the other person. Any firewall between you and them will filter out the message and it will never get there.

You can try it over the Internet: it used to be a popular way of sending spam.
Any kind of firewall product will block it, including the one included with Windows XP. XP Service Pack 2 installs a firewall by default and also disables the "Messenger" service that "net send" relies on, so it may not work.

Also, note that on Windows 2000/XP, these messages get logged in your system's Application log for any other user of the computer to see.

Were do i find the messenger settings!?

No real settings to change, just enable or disable the service through the Services applet (It's called Messenger).
